갈비뼈가 부러진 채로 자는 것은 고통스러울 것이다. 특히 통증 때문에 원래 자세로 잘 수 없다면 말이다. 갈비뼈가 부러졌을 대 쉽게 자려면 수면 자세를 바꿔서 통증을 줄일 수 있는 방법을 찾아야 한다. 또한, 통증을 줄이려면 의사의 조언을 따라야 하고, 갈비뼈 통증으로 잠을 잘 수 없다면 최대한 빨리 의사에게 연락해야 한다.

- 가장 편한 자세 고르기. 갈비뼈가 부러졌을 때, 등을 대고 자거나 옆으로 자는 게 가장 편한 자세일 수 있다. 갈비뼈가 부러졌을 때 두 자세 모두 괜찮다. 옆으로 자거나 등을 대고 자면 숨쉬기가 더 편할 것이다.[1] 가장 편한 자세를 찾기 위해 여러가지 자세를 시도해본다.
- 다친 쪽을 대고 자보기. 갈비뼈가 한쪽만 부러진 경우, 어떤 의사들은 부러진 쪽을 대고 자는 걸 추천한다. 그러면 다친 갈비뼈의 움직임이 제한되고 다친 쪽으로 더 깊게 숨을 쉴 수 있기 때문이다. 하지만, 이 자세가 너무 아프다면 다친 쪽을 대고 자지 않는다.
- 기대는 의자에서 자기. 어떤 사람들은 침대보다 기댈 수 있는 의자에서 자는 걸 더 편하게 느낀다.
- 베개를 사용하여 더 편안하게 하기. 베개와 쿠션을 사용하면 잠잘 때 움직이는 걸 예방할 수 있다. 잠잘 때 이리저리 움직이게 되면 고통스럽고 중간에 깰 수도 있다. 등을 대고 잔다면, 양 팔 밑에 베개를 둬서 옆으로 구르지 않도록 만든다. 무릎 밑에 베개를 둬서 허리 긴장을 줄여줄 수도 있다.[2]
- 깊게 숨 쉬는 것 연습하기. 갈비뼈가 부러지면 가슴을 너무 많이 움직이면 통증이 생기기 때문에 얕게 숨을 쉬게 된다. 이러한 이유로, 낮과 잠을 청하기 전에 깊게 숨을 쉬는 것이 좋다. 깊게 숨을 쉬는 걸 연습하면 몸도 이완되고 충분한 산소를 공급받을 수 있다.[3]
- 깊게 숨쉬기를 연습하려면 등을 대고 눕거나 의자에 기대서 숨을 느리고 깊게 들이마신다. 깊게 숨을 마시며 5까지 세고 천천히 내쉬며 다시 5부터 내려간다. 숨을 쉴 때, 횡격막을 이용하여 공기를 배까지 끌어당기려고 해본다.
- 잠잘 때 움직임 제한하기. 처음 며칠 동안은 기침, 몸을 꼬기, 몸을 돌기, 스트레칭을 안 해야 한다. 잠잘 때는 이를 기억하거나 제어하기가 어려울 수 있다. 갈비뼈는 상체의 많은 부분과 연결돼있어서 움직임으로 통증이 심해질 수 있다는 걸 기억하도록 한다.광고
