Hanau shootings

On 19 February 2020, two mass shootings occurred, targeting two shisha bars in Hanau, Hesse, Germany. Nine people were murdered and many others seriously wounded. After the attacks, the alleged perpetrator killed his mother and committed suicide. Police believe these attacks to have had a xenophobic, right-wing extremist motive.

Chancellor Angela Merkel cancelled a planned trip to Halle, Saxony-Anhalt and expressed her condolences to the victims' families.[2]
