How to Fix Clear Coat

Over exposure to the sun and the elements can cause the clear coat on your car to start to peel. Instead of getting a new paint job done on your car, which can be very costly, you can try fixing the clear coat yourself. Start by sanding away the old clear coat. Once the old clear coat is removed, you can reapply a new clear coat. If you need to blend in the old clear coat with the new one, lightly sand the area and polish your car like new.

Removing the Old Clear Coat

Wash the area that needs to be repaired. Fill a bucket with water. Soak a soft sponge, like microfiber sponge, in the water. Squirt a small amount of car wash soap onto the sponge. Scrub the area to remove any and all dirt and dust. Rinse the area with a hose. Use a dry microfiber cloth to dry the area until it is completely dry.^{[1]XResearch source}

Block off the section to be repaired with masking tape. Place masking tape 5 to 6 inches (13 to 15 cm) past the parts of the panel that you need to sand. Back mask the area where the affected section meets the blending section. Place a piece of newspaper 2 to 3 inches (5.1 to 7.6 cm) past the edge of the blending area into the affected area. Activate your 2K clear coat aerosol can. Shake the can for 2 minutes. Remove the cap from the top of the can and attach it to the bottom. Wait at least 48 hours before you start blending. If you can, it is better to wait 2 to 3 days. This way, the clear coat will be totally cured and ready to blend.^{[14]XResearch source}

Chisel out the concrete around the flange cut and rethread the pipe if it's metal, or glue a shorter pipe if ABS. A lot of work, and you need to know what you are doing.
