George Orwell
Eric Arthur Blair (25. juni 1903–21. januar 1950), kjend som George Orwell, var ein britisk forfattar fødd i India. Han voks opp på dei britiske øyane og reiste til Burma i 1921. Der utdanna han seg til, og arbeidde som politi. Etter fem år reiste han heim att.

I 1937 fór han i strid for republikken, det vil seie mot Franco, i den spanske borgarkrigen. Opplevingane hans her vart nedskrivne i boka Homage to Catalonia, som òg finst på norsk som Hyllest til Catalonia.
Dei to mest kjende bøkene hans, Animal Farm (1945) og 1984 (1949), er svært samfunnskritiske og negative til totalitære styre. Orwell var demokratisk sosialist.
Orwell døydde av tuberkulose, 46 år gammal.
