I am a writer and academic specialising in Islam and Muslims in the West. I have a PhD in Politics, a Masters degree in Islamic Studies as well as a Bachelor of Arts (in Arabic & Islamic Studies), a Bachelor of Music as well as an A.Mus.A in violin.I have worked at both the University of Melbourne and Monash University as well as written for mainstream media in Australia.

Sufisticated is a play on the words "Sufi" and "sophisticated". I am not a Sufi (no true Sufi would be so bold as to call themselves one) but I'm very interested in Sufism, particularly the Shadhili-Darqawi order.
