Hello, my name is Cynthia Parkhill and I live in Ashland, Oregon. I relocated following a 15-year career as a professional editor/journalist.
For a number of years I have been interested in, and have practiced, various textile arts including tablet (or card) weaving, historical costuming, lace-making and crochet. I was introduced to many of these crafts through the Society for Creative Anachronism and, while I am not presently involved with the Society, I continue to maintain an interest in textile arts.
At age 39, I learned that I have a condition called Asperger Syndrome, which is on the autistic spectrum. Knowing this has made all the difference to me. After a lifetime of feeling out of place due to certain issues with sensory impressions and my ability to socialize, I discovered that I am actually part of a unique and vibrant culture with conditions and experiences in common.
In 2010, I returned to school in Library science. I am taking online courses through Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo and hope to pursue a library career. I am a lifelong user and supporter through Public library advocacy and through direct volunteering at my local library. I administered a small church lending library.
