Sunway Lagoon is an amusement park located in Sunway City, Subang Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. It is owned by the Sunway Group.

The park began operating in 1992[1] and was officiated by the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mahathir Mohamad, on 29 April 1993.[2]

Since opening, the theme park has added Malaysia’s first surf simulator, the FlowRider in 2010;[3] Malaysia’s first Waterplexx 5D in 2012,[4] and Vuvuzela, a water slide, in 2013.[5]

2008Scream Park was added as the new park addition, in collaboration with the Lynton V. Harris. There are 4 scare experiences: the theatre experience, Prison Break, the Rumah Hantu 3D and the Terror tunnel.[10]
2010Launch of Sunway Lagoon's attraction, FlowRider, Malaysia’s first surf simulator.[3]
2012The grand opening of the first Waterplexx 5D in Malaysia.[4]

  • Sunway Lagoon introduced its water ride, Vuvuzela.[5]
  • In October, Sunway Lagoon debuted the Halloween theme festival, Nights of Fright.[11]
2015A pair of white lions, Zola and Zuri were added to the Wildlife Park.[12]
2016
  • In collaboration with formerly Viacom International Media Networks, Sunway announced the opening of Asia’s first Nickelodeon-themed attraction at Sunway Lagoon, Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon.[13]
  • In partnership with Lynton V. Harris, Sunway Lagoon announced the addition of "The Ghostbusters Adventure Live!" to its Scream Park.[14]
  • Sunway Lagoon unveiled the addition of White Tigers to its wildlife family.[15]

The 88-acre (36 ha) park is built 150 feet (46 m) below ground level on a tin mining wasteland and currently has 90 attractions spread across six parks.[1]

Water ParkThe first park to be introduced in the park features Waters of Africa with 13 attractions and Surf Beach with 9 attractions. The Waters of Africa has 2 water playground areas for young children, Kalahari Kids and Little Zimbabwe.

Other water rides include Cameroon Climb, African Python, Congo Challenge, Vuvuzela, and Waterplexx 5D. The Surf Beach has Flowrider, Surf Beach, Mushroom/Umbrella, Water Disco, Surf Deck, Harbour Deck, Islands, Promenade and Volcano.

Scream ParkThe Scream Park designed strictly for ages above 7 years old, provides 4 interactive "scare" experiences by using audio, visual effects, and live actors. The 4 scare attractions are Pontianak Theater of Fear, Horrorwood Studios, Zombie Apocalypse, and The Ghostbusters Adventure Live!
Amusement ParkThe park is divided into 2 sides, Wild Wild West with 4 rides and World of Adventure with 9 rides/ attractions. The rides at Wild Wild West include Colorado Splash, Grand Canyon River Rapids, Vultures, and Butch Cassidy Trail.

The World of Adventure features Pirate’s Revenge, Tomahawk, Lost City of Gold Scream Coaster, Apache Pots, Wagon Wheel, Carousel, Captain Kid’s Candyland, Captain Kid’s Playland and Malaysia’s Longest Pedestrian Suspension Bridge.

Extreme ParkThe Extreme Park features activities including paintball, bungee trampoline, kayaking, paddle boat, swan ride, All-terrain vehicles (ATV), archery, flying fox, go-kart, g-force, and bungee jump.
Wildlife ParkThe Wildlife Park is an interactive and educational zoo with exotic, small, and friendly animals from a range of birds, reptiles, and mammals. The Wildlife Park is home to more than 140 species, with the pygmy marmoset and white lions among its latest additions.[16] Each of the animal sanctuaries has a different name such as Pet Village, Jungle Trail, Aviary, Tropical Enclosure, Tree Top Terrace, and Bird Savannah.[16]
Nickelodeon Lost LagoonThe first Nickelodeon-themed land in Asia,[17] opens with 14 new rides[18] that cater to all ages. Among the attractions are the SpongeBob Splash Adventure, Primeval, Jungle Fury, and Monsoon 360. The park also features green slime at a set hour during the "Great Slime Deluge". Visitors can meet Nickelodeon characters: SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star, Dora the Explorer and Boots, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.[13]

Concerts and events edit

Sunway Lagoon has hosted some of the international lifestyle, music and sporting events including MTV World Stage (2009 to 2015[19]) and Quicksilver Revolution Tour (2006 and 2008). Other concerts hosted include deadmau5 (2011),[20] The Native Tour by OneRepublic, Pitbull (2011).[21]

Incidents edit

On 20 November 1997, a woman fell from a roller coaster when the safety bar and belt gave away, throwing her on the ground next to the pond several metres below. Due to the accident, the local authority decided to close the park for investigation and ordered Sunway Lagoon to close the Runaway Train ride.[34]

Sunway Lagoon is also accessible from the Subang Airport via the Skypark Link with an interchange at  KJ28  KD09  KS02  Subang Jaya station.
