FA Cup

A Football Association Challenge Cup, mellor coñecida como a FA Cup, é unha competición anual de fútbol inglés de eliminación directa, organizada pola Football Association. Dende 2015 coñécese como The Emirates FA Cup por motivos de patrocinio.

Historia editar

A primeira vez que se disputou a FA Cup foi en 1871. É a competición futbolística máis antiga do mundo. Desde 1916 até 1919 a competición suspéndese por mor da primeira guerra mundial. Entre 1940 e 1945 a segunda guerra mundial obriga a suspender a competición de novo.

Sistema de competición editar

O sistema de competición é o de eliminatorias directas a un partido, dentro dun cadro xeral de competición no que participan todos os clubs. En caso de empate, xógase un partido adicional en campo do equipo que sexa visitante no primeiro encontro. Outra igualdade en goles implica que o paso á seguinte rolda é para o equipo que marque máis goles de visitante. Se a paridade persiste hai lanzamentos de penaltis. O campión da FA Cup consegue un posto na seguinte edición da UEFA Europa League.
