Wiki How:Requests for permissions/New page reviewer

New page reviewer

User:IgnatiusofLondon

I was a new page reviewer until earlier this month. As my curation log suggests, while this wasn't the focus of my wikiediting, I occasionally dipped into the backlog to review new articles, a fair few of which I draftified or sent to AfD (so they weren't all easy!). I think my reviews were adequately accurate to demonstrate my suitability for the permission, and I'd like to continue helping to reduce the backlog as my wikiediting time allows. Thanks! @IgnatiusofLondon: I'm afraid your draftify log raises several questions:
  1. User:Russellmorden/Economics of Gold was technically outside of WP:NPPHOUR, but from the edit summary and placeholder sections it should have been pretty clear that the creator was still working on it (see WP:DONTDRAFTIFY#5). Wouldn't an {{unsourced}} tag have been sufficient?
  2. Draft:Belarus–Maldives relations has 21 inline citations for less than 50 characters of prose and two tables, yet you draftified it as "needing more sources". On the creator's talk page you specified that what was missing sources discussing and explaining the international relations between Belarus and the Maldives, not simply side-by-side fact profiles about the countries' basic information. What is the policy basis for excluding an article lacking such sources from mainspace?
  3. Draft:Battle of Orurillo was also draftified for lacking sources. Why was the {{unreferenced}} tag, already added by another reviewer, not sufficient? Did you note that there is a Spanish article on the same battle that does cite sources?
  4. Also on Draft:Battle of Orurillo, this is a clear attempt to revert your draftification. Why did you move it back to draftspace, instead of mainspace?
  5. Did you not notice that Draft:Recapture of Fort Vaux had previously been moved to mainspace by the creator, and was thus ineligible for draftification per WP:DONTDRAFTIFY#6?
  6. Draft:Recapture of Fort Vaux is a lengthy article, apparently translated or adapted from fr:Reprise du fort de Vaux, with 121 inline citations. The reasons you gave for draftifying it include an essay-like tone, overuse of primary sources, and possibility of a merge. Why could these issues not be addressed in mainspace?
I do appreciate that you took the time to leave specific feedback for the creators of each of these articles, rather than only relying on the script's canned reasons, but I'm worried that you are applying a significantly higher standard to new articles in mainspace than the community expects from new page patrol, and would appreciate it if you could reflect on your approach before any extension of the NPR right. – Joe (talk) 14:18, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Trial ends June 16, and backlog drive is nearly over. I am reapplying early since some requests may not be answered after two weeks from now. I would like to review more pages and hopefully clear down the backlog. I have reviewed more than 100 articles so far and only very few were unreviewed. Please consider my reviews and AfDs before processing my application. ToadetteEdit! 18:20, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Experienced editor wanting to contribute to the new page backlog. I was recently granted a trial and did review some pages during that time, but I believe the trial has now expired. Requesting permanent New Page Reviewer permission based on those reviews and my experience in page creations and deletion discussions. PK-WIKI (talk) 22:54, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@PK-WIKI: As far as I can tell you only reviewed two articles during your last trial. I don't mean to be rude—every review helps—but how do you expect us to make a judgement based on that? I can grant you a third trial, but are you honestly going to use it? – Joe (talk) 13:46, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A third trial would be appreciated. Part of the problem is that I apply for the permission, wait X days for it to be approved, don't notice it's approved as I'm busy doing other things. Then the moment I wanted to review has now passed and the trial eventually expires. I will hopefully do enough to have it set permanently this time... PK-WIKI (talk) 20:13, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have 547 mainspace edits, have a registered account for 8 months and 22 days, good reputation with many editors, created a mainspace article, have a good understanding of guidelines, have done a few good article reviews, and have no blocks. Cos (X + Z) 22:02, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. Thank you for volunteering, but in reviewing your editing history I wasn't able to find sufficient experience with the deletion process to feel comfortable granting you the permission at this point in time. I encourage you to spend some time at WP:AFD and make policy based votes to show that you're comfortable evaluating notability. Alternatively, you can apply to help out at Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation. Hey man im josh (talk) 19:29, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Hey man im josh I have participated in 4 more AFDs and 3 RFDs since you have check my contributions. Cos (X + Z) 17:47, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I have done much AfC reviewing, reviewed over 430 articles, and participated in many AfDs with deep discussions to demonstrate my understanding of Wikipedia's guidelines. I was advised to gain more experience with the deletion process, and I believe I have done so. My previous PERM was declined, saying that my AfDs were SNOWING, which I have since addressed. I think I am ready to review new articles. There is a very big backlog, and I want to help reduce it. GrabUp - Talk 13:24, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Automated comment This user has had 2 requests for new page reviewer declined in the past 90 days ([1][2]). MusikBot talk 13:29, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not done. You have been told by two administrators to wait a couple months before requesting this permission. Please listen to their advice. —Ingenuity (t • c) 13:48, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ingenuity I asked them there Whatever, you said, “Just develop a meaningful track record.” Does that mean I don’t have a good track record now? Are my AfD participations still WP:SNOW, or have I engaged in deeper discussions to show my knowledge? I want to know where my main problem is!, But they didn't replied which is the reason my PERM here, I want to ask you the question. Can you answer please? GrabUp - Talk 13:50, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yesterday, after you sought feedback, Extraordinary Writ told you to wait. You later reached out to The Night Watch who also did so. Your efforts are appreciated, but when people tell you to slow down and keep working at it, you should do so instead of ignoring the advice given to you. You've mentioned tagging articles, but I think you're missing a lot when you try to do so, so perhaps get more familiar with the possible maintenance tags that can be added. Also, I dislike that you're accepting your own AFC submissions a minute after creating and submitting the articles (Rajpalsinh Mahendrasinh Jadav, Hemant Joshi (politician), Anita Subhadarshini), it unnecessarily inflates your stats. If you plan on immediately "accepting" your own submission then just create it in main space. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:56, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I tried to reply to this without reloading the page and saw that Ingenuity had already done so. Leaving my comment but removing the not done template, since Ingenuity has that covered. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:59, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Hey man im josh: I saw an admin doing it, which is why I do it too. However, these articles were only created today or yesterday. GrabUp - Talk 13:58, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Hey man im josh: Can you respond to what I said above? If I had been given an answer to my question there, I would not have come here. GrabUp - Talk 14:09, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Extraordinary Writ, also said in his feedback It's up to you when you want to make the PERM request; the reviewing admin (who won't be me) will decide at that point whether you have enough experience. and you are all declining the request just because they said 'moving very quickly'? I came here to PERM because I was not answered when I questioned them on the Talk page and here again about the specific problem behind the decline. GrabUp - Talk 14:44, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Hey man im josh, @Ingenuity: Why aren’t you responding? Please answer my question that brought me here. GrabUp - Talk 16:32, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nice. When they have nothing right to counter me, they just ignore me. I could have had a trial, but no, they just declined because of the so-called "Moving Quickly." Anyways, I am giving up. I will come back on August 5, 2024, as suggested by admins and then I will see how you treat me. Thanks Josh and Ingenuity. GrabUp - Talk 07:51, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please do not bother. Admins responding to PERM requests are volunteers, like you, and are not obligated to respond to you within 24 hours or keep explaining things to you until you are satisfied. The attitude you have displayed here is not what we want from new page patrollers. – Joe (talk) 08:16, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Joe Roe: I agree with you, but they should at least tell me my faults, and then I will do my best to fix them! Without pointing out any problems, they are declining because of only “moving quickly”. This attitude is not from the beginning; it developed because of their behavior. GrabUp - Talk 08:35, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Extraordinary said that It's up to you when you want to make the PERM request; the reviewing admin (who won't be me) will decide at that point whether you have enough experience. , Then why did they use his views to decline without checking my work? Do you also think that I have no experience at all for the NPP trial? GrabUp - Talk 08:49, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Grabup: It looks like you're just trying to check boxes for permissions that you haven't shown enough experience to properly utilize. This is your fourth declined request, you spam the discussion without giving us adequate time to respond, and then you get upset that we haven't immediately responded to you? Your temperament, impatience, and inexperience is extremely clear to reviewing admins. Your solution after multiple people told you to wait was to immediately request the perm, that screams, to me, that you do not take criticism or guidance well. If you think "moving quickly" is the only issue then youve got selective hearing.
Wait 3 months, at least. You will not have fixed the issue that throw up red flags to so many different declining admins. Do not make a request every month just to make one. Hey man im josh (talk) 11:09, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
8 replies, multiple admins pinged, and a lack of patience. Is that REALLY how you expect to prove that you're capable and competent? That's how you bug people into taking more notice of your flaws. Hey man im josh (talk) 11:11, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Hey man im josh: I did not ask for immediate replies. You can see the time differences; they can’t be labeled as “immediate.” I simply asked what things I need to fix. But you have not clearly said anything. Adding tags for more citations and more categories are very minor things, and I thought I would add them later, which is why I didn’t add them initially. You have not cited any issues other than “moving quickly.” Extraordinary already said, “It is up to you whenever you want to request the permission, and another admin will check my work to determine my experience.” You have not determined my experience from my work; rather, you are just declining because they suggested waiting. Anyway, please clearly tell me the reason behind my decline. Which WP:NPPCRITERIA do I fail? And please be straightforward; don’t keep saying “wait.” I have been on Wikipedia for more than 2 years. I've been going through the new pages feed for a while now without the right, to clean up new pages and nominate for CSD those pages that fall under the criteria, (at least 50 by now, weird how the log is a red link) and I've also participated in AfD and other deletion venues as well. The reviewer right should help when going through the new pages feed as I have been doing to better help misguided editors and to more efficiently go through new articles, and of course reduce the almost 10000-tall backlog that still wasn't gotten rid of in the May backlog drive. Hello! I'm requesting New Pages Reviewer rights because I'd love to contribute to reviewing the backlog of new articles. My experience as an AFC reviewer and participant in AfD discussions demonstrates my understanding of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I actively combat vandalism and have a strong grasp of CSD criteria. I'm a pending changes reviewer and a rollbacker as well. I have made more than 10,000 edits, and I'm eager to review new pages. Thanks! Waqar💬 09:18, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. @Iwaqarhashmi: You have done a lot of work at AFC, but you have only accepted 1 draft while declining 346... Your declines may be valid, but that's a strange ratio that gave me a bit of pause because I like to evaluate what applicants have accepted. Your AFD logs are also all recent work, but what I find concerning is that every single vote you cast was done after consensus was already achieved. Your votes are typically pointing to other people's comments, which is sometimes fine, but I'm not finding examples of you using your own words to describe why something does not or does not meet notability guidelines. Despite the numbers, I'm not seeing enough experience where you exhibit knowledge of notability to feel comfortable granting the permission at this point in time. I encourage you to re-apply, but I'd like to see you accept some stuff at AFC and participate in AFDs in a way that doesn't come across as pile on voting. I've been active in the NPP BACKLOG and the NEW PAGE FEED and I noticed that the Backlog keep increasing every single day, I really wish to help reduce it even though I can't do it all, and each time I'm here I promise to dedicate my time to the New page feeds and also stick to the policies. Thanks in advance. 75DD (talk) 17:35, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. You do not meet the minimum edit requirements specified in WP:NPPCRITERIA. Hey man im josh (talk) 17:38, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay thanks, I'll request when I meet it. 75DD (talk) 17:42, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
