Despotisme il·lustrat

El despotisme il·lustrat és un concepte polític sorgit durant la segona meitat del segle xviii a Europa característic de les monarquies absolutistes i sistemes de govern de l'Antic Règim influenciat per les idees de la Il·lustració, segons les quals les decisions humanes són guiades per la racionalitat. Els monarques d'aquesta doctrina van contribuir a l'enriquiment de la cultura dels seus països i van adoptar un discurs paternalista. També se'l sol anomenar despotisme benevolent o absolutisme il·lustrat. Es podria resumir amb el lema de «tot per al poble, però sense el poble».^[1]
