If you’ve kept a duvet cover on it and there's no obvious need for washing (spilled liquids for example), then you should not need to wash it more than once a year. Even then you may just spray it with vinegar and put it in the dryer to kill the dust mites and freshen it up.

No. Your duvet is heavier when water is added and it's more weighty when wet. Thus, if you force your duvet inside the 7kg washing machine, there no space for proper breathing while washing and the duvet will not be properly washed.
