How to Use the Clips App on iPhone or iPad

The Clips app from Apple allows you to record videos as well as add captions, filters, emojis, music, still images, and other clips to make one continuous image. Getting Started

Download and install Clips. Clips is available for free from the App Store. It has a blue and purple icon with an image that resembles a video camera. Use the following steps to download and install Clips:
- Open the App Store.
- Tap the Search tab.
- Type "Clips" in the search bar.
- Tap GET next to clips.

Open the Clips app. Tap the Clips icon on your Home Screen to open Clips.
- Alternatively, you can tap OPEN in the App Store to open Clips when if finishes downloading.
It's the icon that resembles a stack of squares in the upper-left corner. Tap this button to open the Projects menu.
To create a new project, tap the icon with a plus sign (+) that says Create New in the list of projects. To open an existing project tap the project you want to open and tap Open at the bottom.

Creating New Clips

Tap Camera to record a clip with your camera. This is the traditional way of recording using either the forward-facing camera, or back-facing camera on your phone.
- Tap the icon that resembles circular arrows at the top-center of the screen to switch between your forward-facing or back-facing camera.
- Tap the round, white icon in the lower-right corner to take a still photo with your phone.
This displays a list of photos and videos you've already recorded in your Library. Simply tap an image or video to use it in your next clip.
These posters are useful for adding titles to a video. They contain stylish graphics and animated text. To use an animated poster in your clip, tap Posters. Then tap the poster image you want to use. Tap the text in the poster to edit it.
This feature is only available on iPhone X models and above as well as iPad Pro models from 2018 and later. This feature uses the uses the TrueDepth camera to place you or your subject into a 360 degree scene. Tap and hold the large pink button at the bottom to record. The large pink button at the bottom is the record button. It will record for as long as you hold down the button. The microphone on your iPhone, iPad or headset will record any audio while recording. Even if you are using a still image, such as a photo or poster.
- You can add music or add filters, text, emojis and stickers to a clip before you start recording.
When you are finished recording, simply release the pink button to stop recording.
Each time you press and hold the pink button, it will record a new clip that will be added to your project after the previous clip.

Tap
to share or save a video. It's the icon that resembles a box with an arrow pointing up. This icon displays the Share menu.
- Tap a social media app like Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok to post your video to those apps.
- Tap Save Video to save the video project.
- Tap Save to Files to save a copy to your iPhone or iPad.

Adding Music to a Project

It's the icon that resembles two music notes in the upper-right corner. This allows you to add music to a clip. Clips has a variety of stock music you can choose from or you can use your own music stored on your iPhone or iPad.
Soundtracks is where you can find all the stock music that is included with Clips. Music in Soundtracks is group by music genre (Pop, Playful, Chill, Retro, Action, etc). To use your own music, tap My Music to view all the music in your library.
Music in Soundtracks must be downloaded before you can use it. Tap a song title to start downloading it.
When you tap a song, you will hear a preview of what the song sounds like. This will also add a checkmark to the right of the song indicated that it is selected.
Once you have a song selected, you can tap the arrow pointing left in the upper-right corner to return to the previous screen. You will see the audio wave file displayed below your video project. Tap the play icon next to the audio wave to preview the music with your project.
This adds the music to your clips. The music will start playing at the start of the first video in your Clips project.

Adding Live Captions to a Clip

Tap the speech bubble icon. It's next to the pink record button at the bottom of the screen. This allows you to add Live Captions to a clip as you record it.
- Live Captions cannot be added to a previously recorded clip. They can only be added to a clip as they are recorded.
There are a variety of caption previews at the bottom of the screen. These display the screen position of the captions as well as the color of the text. Tap the preview image for the captions you want to use.
It's above the list of caption images at the bottom of the screen. This returns to the record screen.
This will start recording a new clip.

Speak as your record. Live Captions will be added to the clip as it records.
- If there are spelling and grammar mistakes in the captions, you can {{#Editing Video Clips|edit the captions}} in the clip after it is recorded.

Part 5 of 7:

Adding a Filter to a Clip

It's the rainbow-colored icon to the right of the pink record button. This allows you to add filters, and other effects to a clip. Filters change the way the camera process an image as it records. It can add a stylish look to your clip or just make the colors pop a little more. Use the following steps to add a filter to your clip before you start recording.

Tap Filters. It's the first tab at the bottom of the page. This displays a list of camera filters at the bottom of the screen.
- Filters can only be added to camera clips, images, and previously recorded videos. They cannot be added to posters or scenes.
Each thumbnail at the bottom of the page displays a preview of what the filter looks like. Tap a filter thumbnail to see a full screen preview of what the filter looks like.
It's above the list of filter thumbnail images at the bottom of the screen. This returns to the record screen.
This will start recording a new clip with the filter you selected.

Adding Text, Stickers and Emojis

It's the rainbow-colored icon to the right of the pink record button. In addition to adding filters, this menu allows you to add animated text, stickers, and emojis to a scene. This can make you scene more lively and expressive.
This are the tabs at the bottom of the screen. Text allows you to add an animated text sticker to a clip. Stickers and emojis work much the same way. They allows you to add a small, still image on top of your clip.
All options are displayed at the bottom of the screen. Tap the sticker, emoji, or text option you want to use to place it in the clip scene.
If you are using animated text, you can change the text in the sticker by tapping the text on-screen. Then use the on-screen keyboard to add your own text.
You can move the objects around on screen by tapping and dragging them. Drag the object to where you want to place it.
You can enlarge the sticker using standard Apple gestures. Place your thumb and index finger on the sticker or emoji, or text object and pull them apart to enlarge it

Shrink the text, sticker, or emoji. To reduces the size of an emoji, sticker, or text object, place your thumb and index around the sticker and bring them together to make the sticker smaller.
- To delete a sticker, emoji, or text object, tap and hold a sticker in the clip, and then tap Delete.
It's above the list of filter images at the bottom of the screen. This returns to the record screen.
This will start recording a new clip with the sticker, emoji, or text object you selected.

Part 7 of 7:

Editing Video Clips

Clips are displayed at the bottom of the screen in the order they were recorded in. To change the order, simply tap and hold a clip and then drag it to a new position.
All clips are displayed at the bottom of the screen. Tap the clip you want to edit. This displays options you can use to preview and edit the clip.

Tap Live Titles. This option allows you to edit your video captions and select a different style. Use the following steps to edit your Live Titles:
- Tap Text to edit the caption text.
- Tap the text at the bottom of the screen.
- Use the on-screen keyboard to edit the text
- Tap Done in the keyboard.
- Tap Style to select a different caption style.
- Tap a different Caption style you want to use.
This option allows you to select a different filter, as well as, change, add or delete, animated text, stickers, and emojis the same way you would if you were creating a new clip.
This option cuts the audio in the clip.
Then tap Delete Clip in the pop-up to confirm that you want to delete the clip.

Tap Trim. This option allows you to shorten or lengthen a clip. Use the following steps to trim a clip:
- Tap and drag the bar pointing left in the timeline at the bottom to adjust the starting point of the clip.
- Tap and drag the bar pointing right to adjust the ending point of the clip.
- Tap the play icon to preview the clip.
- Tap Trim to trim the clip.

Tap Split. This option allows you to split a clip into two separate clips. Splitting a clip is a good way to change emojis, text, and stickers in a scene. Use the following options to split the clip:
- Drag the white line to where you want to split the clip at the bottom.
- Tap the 'Play' below the clip to make sure will split at the right point.
- Tap Split to split the clip.
