How to Use Documents by Readdle on iPhone or iPad

This How.com.vn teaches you how to get started with Documents, a free file manager and viewer by Readdle, on an iPhone or iPad. You can use Documents to manage files on device and/or a cloud server, open most popular file types, save websites as PDF files, and much more.

Managing Files on your iPhone or iPad

Open Documents. It’s the gray ″D″ icon with yellow and green accents. You’ll usually find it on the home screen.

- Use this method to manage the files saved to your iPhone or iPad. To use Documents to manage files on a cloud server, including moving files between your phone/tablet and the server, see Managing Files on a Cloud Server.
If it’s your first time using Documents to open a folder, you may have to give the app permission to access your files.

Tap a file to open it. Documents can open many types of files, including photos, PDFs, music, and videos.^{[2]XResearch source}
- To share the file you opened, tap the three dots at the top-right corner to open the menu, tap Share, and then select a sharing method.

Move (or copy) a file to another folder. Here’s how:
- Open the folder that contains the file(s) you want to move.
- Tap Edit at the top-right corner.
- Tap each file you want to move.
- Tap Move at the bottom (the second icon), or select Copy' if you want a copy of the file to remain in its original location.
- Tap the destination folder.
- Tap Move to (destination folder name).

Delete a file. Here’s how you can remove a file from your iPhone or iPad with Documents:
- Open the folder that contains the file you want to delete.
- Tap Edit at the top-right corner.
- Tap the file(s) you want to delete.
- Tap More at the bottom-right corner.
- Tap Delete.

Managing Files on a Cloud Server

Open Documents. It’s the gray ″D″ icon with yellow and green accents. You’ll usually find it on the home screen.
- If you haven’t yet installed Documents by Readdle, you can download it now for free from the App Store.^{[3]XResearch source}
- Use this method if you want to easily access and manage files on your cloud accounts (e.g., Dropbox, Google Drive, your company server, etc) in Documents.
- If you’re using iCloud, make sure iCloud Drive is enabled. Since your iCloud folder will appear in Documents as a regular folder, you can manage those files just as you would any other folder on your phone or tablet.
It’s the two overlapping clouds at the bottom of the screen.
A list of account types will appear.
Choose one of the cloud services at the top of the screen if you use them to store your files. If you’re adding a different type of server (e.g., FTP, SFTP, Sharepoint), tap the server type in the second or third section.

Follow the on-screen instructions to sign in. Once you’re signed in, you’ll be able to access the files you store on that server.
- If you’re using a cloud service like Google Drive, follow the on-screen instructions to enter your username and password.
- If you’re using a different type of server (such as your company’s file server), enter your username, password, server address, and other requested information, and then tap Save at the top-right corner.

Download a file. Here’s how to download a file from a cloud account:
- Tap Services at the bottom and select the server.
- Open the folder that contains the file(s).
- Tap the file to open it.
- Tap the three dots at the top-right corner.
- Tap Save to Documents.
- Name the file and tap Done.

Upload a file. If you’d like to upload a file from your phone or tablet to the cloud, here’s how:
- Open the folder that contains the file(s).
- Tap Edit at the top of the screen.
- Tap the file(s) you want to upload.
- Tap Upload (the cloud icon).
- Select the account and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Saving Email Attachments

Open Mail. It’s the blue icon with a white envelope inside. You should find it on the home screen.

Saving a Website as a PDF

Open Documents. It’s the gray ″D″ icon with yellow and green accents. You’ll usually find it on the home screen.
- If you haven’t yet installed Documents by Readdle, you can download it now for free from the App Store.
It's at the bottom-right corner. This opens the internal web browser.

Navigate to the website you want to save. To do so, type the URL into the address bar and tap the Go key.
- If you need to search for a sight, type your search term(s) into the bar, tap Go, and then tap the site in the search results.

It’s in the bottom row of icons on the menu. You may have to scroll to the right to see it.
The website is now saved as a PDF. You’ll find it in a folder called Downloads inside of Documents.
