How to Use Android Beam

This How.com.vn teaches you how to send information from one Android device to another using Android's "Beam" feature. To use Beam, both Androids must be equipped with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.

Part 1
Part 1 of 2:

Enabling Android Beam

  1. How.com.vn English: Step 1 Open your Android's Settings icon.
This is a gray, gear-shaped app that you'll likely find in the App Drawer.
  2. How.com.vn English: Step 2 Tap More.
It's below the "Wireless & networks" heading.
    • On a Samsung device, you'll instead scroll down and tap NFC and payment.
    • If you can't find the NFC option, your phone doesn't support NFC or Android Beam.
  3. Step 3 Slide the NFC switch to "On" icon.
This switch is near the top of the screen. Doing so will enable NFC functionality for your Android.
  4. How.com.vn English: Step 4 Tap Android Beam.
It's just below the NFC section.
    • On a Samsung device, this option is called S Beam.
  5. Step 5 Turn the Android Beam switch to "On" icon.
To do so, slide the switch at the top of the screen right to the "On" position.
  6. How.com.vn English: Step 6 Repeat this process on another Android device.
In order to share information from your Android to another Android, both devices must have NFC and Android (or S) Beam enabled.

Using Android Beam

  1. How.com.vn English: Step 1 Make sure both Androids are unlocked.
You cannot share an item from an unlocked Android to a locked Android (or vice versa).

Some items you might wish to share include the following:[1]
    • Photos or videos
    • Web pages
    • Apps
    • Contact details
  3. How.com.vn English: Step 3 Press the back of your Android against the other Android's back.
While the devices don't necessarily have to touch one another, they must be within an inch of each other.
  4. Step 4 Wait for the "Touch to beam" notification.
After a second or so, this notification will appear at the top of your screen, and your screen will zoom out.
  5. How.com.vn English: Step 5 Tap your Android's screen.
This will send the file over to the other Android.
  6. How.com.vn English: Step 6 Tap the incoming file on the other Android.
Doing so will confirm that you wish to open the sent file.
    • On a Samsung device, you may first have to swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the "File received" notification here.
