      Tips

      • You can't trade between Fire Red/Leaf Green and Ruby/Emerald/Sapphire until you have obtained the National Dex in the former. In the latter, the PokeDex upgrades to the National Dex once you have traded with Fire Red/Leaf Green.
      • Certain Pokémon only evolve when traded.
      • Pokémon that have been traded from another game gain 1.5x the amount of EXP than regular non-traded Pokémon. If you trade back, they will gain the regular amount (Pokémon traded from a game in a different language gain 1.7x).

      Tips from our Readers

      • Some Pokémon may need to hold an item while trading to evolve. For example, an Onix holding a metal cote will evolve into Steelix while trading.
