How to Search Google Books

Google Books is a platform and feature within Google that allows you to search for specific books, or books that contain information and phrases that you need for research or other purposes. When using the search feature within Google books, you can either enter the title of a specific book or author, or enter phrases or topics to locate books that mention your keywords. You may also be able to browse pages inside the book to see if it contains the information you need, or have the option to purchase the book, based on the publisher's preferences. Access Google Books

  1. Step 1 Go to any of the "Google Support" web pages provided to you in the Sources section of this article.
  2. Step 2 Click on "More" within the Google toolbar at the top of your web session, then select "Books."
    You will be directed to the Google Books home page.
  3. Due to copyright restrictions, Google currently restricts viewing limits to users who have Google accounts.
    • Click on "Sign in" located in the upper-right corner to log into your Google account, or click on "Create an account" from the sign in page to create a Google account.

Search Google Books

  1. Step 1 Enter any search term for a book within the "Search Books" section of the Google Books home page.
    You can enter a book title, author, topic, phrase, or other keyword terms into the search field. For example, if you want to find books about dream analysis, type "dream interpretation," or "dream analysis."

    If a publisher has made a book available for preview on Google Books, the entire book will be displayed in a preview pane. A row of buttons will be available above the preview pane, and a search box will reside to the left of the pane.
