How to Root a ZTE Android Phone with Framaroot

This How.com.vn teaches you how to use the Framaroot application to root your Android ZTE phone. Keep in mind that not all ZTE Androids are compatible with Framaroot's exploits.

Steps

  1. How.com.vn English: Step 1 Understand how Framaroot works.
Framaroot is a third-party application which can be downloaded in order to root your phone. There are a couple things to keep in mind before you install Framaroot:
    • Framaroot may not be compatible with your Android. If you determine that you can't use Framaroot, you can always try using a different rooting method instead.
    • While Framaroot isn't malicious, your Android's built-in security and any antivirus apps you have installed may warn against installing it. This is precautionary since Framaroot has features which allow it to access your Android's system-level processes.
    • Using Framaroot (or any other rooting software) to root your Android will void your Android's warranty, and may harm your Android in the process. You should proceed at your own risk.
  2. How.com.vn English: Step 2 Check your ZTE phone's compatibility.
Not all Androids can be rooted with Framaroot. To see if your phone is on the compatibility list, go to http://framaroot.net/devices.html in your computer's web browser and look for your phone model somewhere on the page.
    • You can expedite this process by pressing Ctrl+F (or Command+F on Mac) and typing in zte to see all of the ZTE models highlighted.
    • If you don't see your model here, you can always try rooting via Framaroot anyway—the list may not be up to date, and Framaroot being incompatible with your Android just means that the root will fail (as opposed to damaging your Android).
  3. How.com.vn English: Step 3 Enable downloads from...
Enable downloads from unknown sources. If your Android's security settings don't permit you to install apps from locations other than the Google Play Store, you'll need to enable this setting before you can proceed.
  4. How.com.vn English: Step 4 Open icon Google Chrome.
On your Android, tap the Chrome app icon, which resembles a red, yellow, green, and blue sphere.
  5. How.com.vn English: Step 5 Open the Framaroot site.
Type http://framaroot.net into the Chrome address bar, then tap Enter or Go.
  6. How.com.vn English: Step 6 Select the 1.9.1 version of Framaroot.
Scroll down and tap FRAMAROOT 1.9.1. Doing so will redirect you to the XDA forums, which is where you'll obtain the most recent version of Framaroot.
    • Selecting either of the more recent versions will redirect you to a survey that doesn't allow you to download Framaroot.
  7. How.com.vn English: Step 7 Download the most recent version of Framaroot.
Scroll down to the bottom of the list of Framaroot links in the "Attached Files" section, then tap the Framaroot-1.9.3.apk link.
    • If the links near the bottom of the post are jumbled with other text on the page, first tap Show Full Post in the middle of the page and allow the page to refresh.
  8. How.com.vn English: Step 8 Open the downloaded APK.
Tap OPEN on the notification which displays once Framaroot finishes downloading, or swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the downloaded file's name.
    • You can also open your Android's file manager, open the default downloads location (e.g., the SD card), tap the Downloads or Download folder, and tap the APK file there.
  9. How.com.vn English: Step 9 Tap INSTALL.
It's in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
    • If warned against installed Framaroot due to "harmful code" or something similar, tap INSTALL or otherwise confirm your decision to install the APK.
  10. How.com.vn English: Step 10 Tap OPEN.
This option will appear at the bottom of the screen once Framaroot has been installed. Doing so opens the Framaroot app.
  11. How.com.vn English: Step 11 Tap the drop-down box.
It's near the top of the screen. Doing so prompts a drop-down menu.
    • If opening Framaroot resulted in an error message which reads "Your device seems not vulnerable to exploit included in Framaroot", your Android cannot be rooted via Framaroot.
  12. How.com.vn English: Step 12 Tap Install SuperSU.
You'll see this option in the drop-down menu.
  13. How.com.vn English: Step 13 Select an exploit.
Each of the available exploits is named after a Lord of the Rings character (e.g., Aragorn), but you'll usually only see one exploit listed. Tapping an exploit will cause it to attempt to root your Android.
    • If you see more than one exploit listed in the middle of the page, tap the top one.
  14. How.com.vn English: Step 14 Wait for a confirmation message.
A few seconds after selecting an exploit, you should see a message which says "Success" and encourages you to restart your Android.
    • If you see a failure message, try selecting a different exploit on the page.
    • If you see a failure message and there are no more exploits to try, your ZTE Android can't be rooted with Framaroot.
  15. How.com.vn English: Step 15 Reboot your Android.
Hold down your Android's "Power" button until a pop-up menu appears, then select the Restart option. Once your Android finishes restarting, you'll be able to use it as a rooted phone.
    • You can also tap Power off (or similar), wait for your Android to turn off, and then press and hold the "Power" button again until your Android turns back on.

      Tips

      • Always use the updated version of Framaroot. Newer versions of Android OS are more difficult to crack, and therefore require the latest version of the rooting software.
      • The most recent version of Framaroot is 1.9.3 as of June 2018, but Framaroot may update in the future. If it does, make sure you're using the newest version.
      • If you end up rooting via the Gandalf exploit, Framaroot may crash the first time you tap Gandalf. You can fix this problem by re-opening Framaroot and selecting Gandalf again.

      Warnings

      • Rooting your ZTE phone will void any warranty that may still apply on the phone.
      • While 1.9.3 is the most recent version as of June 2018, selecting its link (or the 1.9.2 link) on the Framaroot website will redirect you to a survey rather than allowing you to download Framaroot.
