If you don't want to use Microsoft Teams on Windows, you can permanently remove it from your PC. If you've upgraded to Windows 11, which comes with Teams pre-installed, you can either prevent Teams from starting automatically or get rid of it completely. This How.com.vn article will teach you how to uninstall or disable Microsoft Teams (and Microsoft Teams Chat) on Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Steps
Uninstalling Teams on Windows 10
- Close Microsoft Teams. The fastest way to do this is to right-click the Teams icon (the blue and white "T" above outlines of blue people) on the system tray (it's the area where the clock is) and click Quit.
- Click Apps. If you're using Windows 10, you'll see this icon on the Settings window.
- Type teams into the search bar. You'll see this bar under "Apps & features" in the right panel. This filters the list of apps to apps that contain the word "Teams."
- Depending on how Teams is installed, you may see two apps—one called Microsoft Teams, and another called Teams Machine-Wide Installer.[1]
- If you have the Teams Machine-Wide Installer in the list, it will automatically reinstall Teams for all users once they sign in to Windows. Removing this app prevents Teams from automatically reinstalling.
- Click Microsoft Teams in the app list. Two buttons will appear below its name.
- Click Uninstall. A confirmation message will appear, asking if you want to allow the app to make changes.
- Click Yes. This removes Teams from your PC.
- Click Teams Machine-Wide Installer. If this app appeared in the search results, you'll have to remove it as well. Otherwise, Teams will automatically reinstall.
- Click Uninstall and select Yes. This fully removes Microsoft Teams from Windows 10 and prevents it from reinstalling itself.Advertisement
Disabling Teams on Windows 11
- Open your Windows Settings . This is the gear icon on your Windows Start menu. If you don't want to completely remove Teams but would prefer that it didn't open automatically when you start up your PC, you can easily remove it from your startup apps.
- This method won't actually uninstall Teams. It'll just hide it from you, which is a bit simpler than deleting the app.
- Click the Apps tab. It's in the left panel of Settings.
- Click Startup. This is the last option in the right panel. You'll see a list of all apps on your computer that are set to start up automatically.
- Remove Teams Chat from the taskbar (optional). If you don't want to see the icon for Microsoft Teams Chat on your taskbar, it's easy to remove:
- Right-click a blank area of the taskbar.
- Click Taskbar settings.
- Click the switch next to "Chat" to hide the icon.
