My socks either have to go into the garbage or paper recycling bins. Which is the better?

The garbage usually isn't an ideal spot because most socks are now made with material that makes them slow to degrade. Paper recycling bins also aren't a good idea unless you are sending them to a place that you know will accept them. If your socks are in good condition, donate them to the needy.
