How to Open NAT Type on Xbox One

This How.com.vn teaches you how to set up an open NAT type on Xbox One. NAT stands for Network Address Translation. An open NAT type will allow you to connect with more players online. The easiest way to set up an open NAT type is to enable UPnP on your modem or router. This method comes with some security risks. You can also enable port forwarding for your Xbox One, but this method is a little more difficult to set up.

Method 1
Method 1 of 2:

Enabling UPnP

  1. How.com.vn English: Step 1 Enter your router or modem's IP into your web browser.
You can use any web browser on your PC or Xbox One. This takes you to the login page for your router or modem. Your router's IP address is different from one make and model to the next. Consult the user's manual for your router or modem, or manufacturer's web page for more information about how to log in to your router.
    • Common router IP addresses include 192.168.0.1 , 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.1
    • You can also find your router's IP address in your network settings on your PC or Mac
  2. How.com.vn English: Step 2 Enter your router or modem's login information.
Your router or modem has a default username and password you can use to log in. If you are not sure what the default username and password is for your router or modem, consult the user's manual, or manufacturer's web page.
    • Admin is a common default username and/or password on many modems and routers. Password is also a common password.
    • You might want to consider changing your default password on your router to help improve your network security.
  3. How.com.vn English: Step 3 Navigate to the UPnP menu.
Again, this is different from one router or modem make and model to another. Look for it under "Advanced Settings", "Tools", "Misc" or "Network Settings".
    • Note: Enabling UPnP can put your network at a greater security risk. Though the risk usually isn't too high for home users.
  4. How.com.vn English: Step 4 Enable UPnP.
After you locate the UPnP settings, click the checkbox or circular button next to "Enable UPnP".
    • If UPnP is not available on your router or modem, use port forwarding instead.
  5. How.com.vn English: Step 5 Save your changes.
After enabling UPnP on your router, make sure you save the changes you have made on your router or modem.
  6. How.com.vn English: Step 6 Press the home button on your Xbox controller.
It's the button with the Xbox logo in the center of the controller. This displays the menu to the left.
  7. How.com.vn English: Step 7 Select Settings.
Highlight the Settings panel and press "A" on the controller to open the Settings app.
  8. How.com.vn English: Step 8 Select the Network tab.
Select the Network tab on the left and press "A" to open the Network menu. It should say "Open" next to "NAT type" in the settings menu.[1]
