How to Obtain Your GED Transcript

The General Education Development test, or GED, tests your knowledge of high school level material. Taking the test is an option for anyone who did not earn a traditional high school diploma but is looking to further their education or apply for jobs. If you have passed the GED and need your transcripts, you’ll have to contact the center or state where you took the test, complete any necessary forms, and pay the required fees.

Call the center where you took the test if you have their number. If you remember exactly where you took your GED test, you can call that testing center and ask how to order a copy of your GED transcripts. - As long as the center is still in operation, they should be able to provide you with exact instructions on how to request a copy of your transcript.
- For testing center locations listed by state, visit https://ged.com/policies/ then find the state where you took the test and click on the link.

Search the official GED Testing Service site to order transcripts online. If you’re not sure exactly where you took the GED test, each state has a system for ordering transcripts that you can use. Go to https://ged.com/ and click the “Request Transcript” link at the top of the screen.
- If you took the computer version of the test after January 1, 2014, you can login to their system “MyGED” directly and follow the instructions for getting your transcript.
- If you completed the GED on paper or before January 1, 2014, click on the “Get Transcript” link which directs you to a list of states. Choose the state where you took the test and follow the instructions for getting your transcripts.

Contact a community college for more support. Your local community college also has information on how to get high school and GED transcripts. If you have started looking at a program to enroll in, the admissions office at the school will be glad to help you track down your GED transcripts.
- Call the admissions office and explain to them you need help getting your GED transcripts. They will direct your call to someone who can provide you with more information.
- If you're looking to attend college in a different state than the one where you took your GED, you may need to find your state’s Department of Education transcripts office online. To do this, search your state name + Department of Education + GED transcripts.

Fill out an online form for fast results. Most states have an online option for completing a transcript request form. You will need to have certain information available, such as your social security number or other identification information, and create an account through their online ordering system.

- Have your credit card information available to pay the fee, which could be $4-$20 depending on your state.

Request your transcripts in person if you live nearby. Certain states, such as CA and GA, have GED Testing Centers where you can fill out the request form and pay the fee in person. Complete a request by phone if your state has that option. Some states, such as AK, AZ, CA, IN, IL, MA, ME, OH, and PA offer a phone order option through a company called “Diploma Sender” to allow people to request their transcripts by phone. Have your ID and payment information ready when you call.

- Call (855) 313-5799 to start the process of ordering your transcript. You will need to provide your identification and credit card information.
- A service fee of $6 is added onto the transcript request fee in order to use this service.

Mail in a request if your state requires it. A few states, such as HI, MN, MT, NH, NY, and WI require you to download a transcript request form and mail it in along with your payment. Pay the required fee. Most states charge a fee in order to send your transcript to you. The fee is typically $4-$20, and it varies from state to state.^{[4]XResearch source} States will typically accept checks, money orders, or credit cards for payment, but you’ll want to check with the request service you’re using to be sure.
- Follow the instructions for paying the fee on the website, phone number, or mail-in form that you’re using to order your transcripts.

If your name has changed since the time you took your GED, give your former name when requesting your GED transcripts. You can then provide proof of your name change, like through a marriage license or new social security card, when you are giving your transcripts to the school in which you’re enrolling.
