Steps
Prepping the Juice
Pour about 2 cups (470 mL) of orange juice in a plastic bag. Grab your favorite orange juice and pour about 2 cups (470 mL) of it into a small plastic bag with a seal on top. Seal the top of the bag up tight so that juice can’t spill out of it as you make your slushie.- The more orange juice your pour, the more slushie you’ll have. If you’re making slushies for multiple people, try adding more orange juice. If it’s just for you, add a little less.
- For an added twist, try combining the orange juice with pineapple or guava juice for a more tropical taste.[1]
- You’re going to need to fit your first bag inside of another one, so choose one that’s about sandwich-sized.
Place the bag inside of another plastic bag. Open up a gallon-sized plastic bag. Carefully slide your bag full of orange juice into the second bag, being careful not to spill any juice.- If you do spill some, double-check the seal on the first bag to make sure it’s really closed.

- Seal up the second bag and make sure it’s airtight. Press in on the seal at the top of the bag and double-check to see that it’s closed. If it isn’t, you could spill your slushie before you even make it, so press down on the seal really hard!
- Wrap the bags in a towel. Pick up the bag and set it in the center of a kitchen towel. Bring the 4 corners of the towel together on top of the bag to cover it up and protect your hands from the cold.
- Alternatively, you can use oven mitts instead of a towel to protect your hands from the cold.[3]
- Shake the bags for about 10 minutes. Pick up the bag with both hands and lift it up to chest height. Set a timer on your phone for 10 minutes, then shake the bag back and forth vigorously the entire time. You might be able to hear the orange juice stop sloshing around as it turns into a slushie!
- Try to keep shaking the bag for the full 10 minutes so the orange juice has a chance to fully cool down. If it doesn’t, it could be too liquidy at the end.
