Steps
Installing TikTok
- Tap Search. It’s at the bottom-right corner of the screen.
- Type TikTok into the search bar and tap the Search key.
- Find TikTok - including musical.ly. It’s the black icon with a white music note inside.
- Tap GET.
- Enter your password or use Touch/Face ID to confirm. The app will then install to your iPhone or iPad.
- Depending on your settings, you may be prompted to sign into the App Store and then tap INSTALL to continue.

Creating an Account
- Open TikTok. It’s the black icon with a white music note inside. It should be on the home screen. A pop-up will appear.
- Tap Allow. This gives the app permission to send you notifications.
- Swipe up on the screen. The ″Welcome to TikTok″ window will appear.
- 4Review the terms and tap Agree. It’s at the bottom of the pop-up.
- Tap the profile icon. It’s at the bottom-right corner of the screen.
- Sign up using your phone number or email address. If you want to connect new TikTok account to one of the social media options instead, skip to the next step. Here’s how to sign up with your phone number or email address:
- Tap Sign Up With Phone or Email.
- Enter your birthday and tap the right arrow.
- Enter your phone number, or tap Email at the top-right corner of the screen to enter your email address instead. Tap the right arrow.
- If asked, enter the 4-digit code that the app texts you. This will only apply if you're signing up with a phone number.
- Enter your desired password and tap the check mark.
- Tap the box next to ″I’m not a robot,″ if asked. This will only apply if you're signing up with an email address.
- Your account is now set up and ready to use.
- Sign up with a Facebook account. Skip this step if you don’t want to link your account to Facebook.
- Tap the Facebook icon. It’s the blue circle with a white ″f″ inside.
- Tap Continue.
- Enter your Facebook login details if asked.
- Tap Log In.
- Tap Continue as <your name>.
- Enter your birthday and tap the right arrow. Your account is now ready to use.
- Sign up with Instagram. If you don’t want to connect Musical.ly to Instagram, skip this step. Otherwise:
- Tap the Instagram icon. It’s the pink, orange, and yellow camera.
- Enter your Instagram login and password and tap Log in.
- Tap Authorize.
- Enter your birthday and tap the right arrow. Your account is now set up and ready to use.
- Sign up with Twitter. If you don’t want to sign up with a Twitter account, skip this step. Otherwise:
- Tap the Twitter icon. It’s the blue and white bird.
- Enter your Twitter username and password.
- Tap Authorize app.
- Enter your birthday and tap the right arrow. Your account is now set up and ready to use.
- Sign up with Google. If you don’t want to sign up with a Google account, skip this step. Otherwise:
- Tap the Google icon. It’s the colorful G icon.
- Tap Continue.
- Tap or enter your Google username and password if asked.
- Enter your birthday and tap the right arrow. Your account is now set up and ready to use.

Setting Up Your Profile
- Tap the profile icon. It’s the outline of a person’s head and shoulders at the bottom-right corner of the screen.
- Tap Edit Profile. It’s the red and white button at the center of the screen.
- Change your display name if desired. Type it in the field given.
- This is different from your username; it goes at the top of your profile page, but isn't the username that people tag you with, using the @ sign.
- Change your username if desired. This is the handle that most people will use to find and mention you (by tagging your username with the @ sign). If you change this, you won't be able to change again for 30 days.
- Hit the username field.
- Click Got it when warned that you won't be able to change it again for 30 days.
- Enter the username you want in place of your current one.
- Add a profile photo. To do this, tap the gray circle above ″Profile Photo,″ and then do one of the following:
- Tap Take a Photo to take a new photo. Tap OK to give the app permission to use the camera, then take your photo. Line up the part of the photo you want to use in the square, then tap Use Photo to upload it.
- Tap Select from Library to choose a photo from your iPhone or iPad. Tap OK to give TikTok permission to access your photos, then select a photo. Line up the part of the photo you want to use in the square, then tap Choose to upload it.
- You can upload a profile video, if preferred, by clicking the circle above Profile Video.
- Add a bio. To do this, tap No bio yet next to ″Bio,″ type a few words or sentences about yourself.
