Have you ever wanted to make a sun costume? Well now you can! A Halloween costume that you will never forget.
Steps
- Select some solid cardboard for making the costume from. It should be large enough for your torso region or the torso region of the costume wearer. It should be sturdy enough for wearing (you don't want it flopping over).
- Cut out two circles that are wider than your torso. Draw the circles first, then use a craft knife on a safe cutting surface to cut out the circles.Advertisement
- Poke two holes on the top of each circle. Use a pencil or the end of scissors to make the holes.
- Lace twine (or other strong rope) through the holes you just made. Tie one end around the hole and leave the other end dangling. Be sure to use good lengths of twine or rope (see next step).
- Tie both sides of the rope to the other piece of cardboard so that the pieces of cardboard are connected. However, leave enough space in between for your body, as one circle will sit on your back, one on your front. The twine or rope sits over your shoulders, so keep this in mind when deciding on the final length.
- Create the sun's rays. Using leftover pieces of cardboard, cut out shapes that resemble stylized depictions of the sun's rays.
- Glue or staple these rays around each circle. If gluing on, allow to dry before proceeding to the next step.
- Paint each circle the colors of the sun. Mostly yellow but some orange and red touches to heat it up are fine.
- If you want your sun to have character, draw eyes and a smile on the front circle.
- Allow the entire piece to dry.
- Dress in all yellow (or orange/red) clothing.
- Put your neck through the top of the hole like your putting on a shirt. You're ready to hit the streets as the sun!
Community Q&A
- QuestionHow do I make a black circle?SylghoulsTop AnswererCut a circle out of cardboard as shown in the tutorial, and then paint it black with whatever paint you have on hand. Acrylic or tempera paint would work well, though you may need multiple coats to get a completely opaque, matte color.
- QuestionWhat all things will I need to use?Community AnswerCardboard, rope, scissors, glue, yellow and orange paint, pen (optional), yellow or orange clothing.
- QuestionWhat if I don't have cardboard?HumanBeingTop AnswererIf you dress all in yellow, you can pretend you are the sun. The rays of your sun costume don't have to be rigid; you can use yellow fabric to create rays. Any yellow fabric you can fashion into a full, long poncho-type garment can make you look like the sun, especially if you raise your arms up while you are wearing it.
