How to Make Powdered Baby Formula

Formula is the most ideal nutrition if the mother is working or decides to opt out of breastfeeding. Powdered formula is better than "ready-to-go" liquid for two reasons: it's cheaper and can get more out of it per feeding proportion. Here is how to make baby formula using a powdered mix.

Steps

  1. How.com.vn English: Step 1 Boil water...
Boil water for five minutes. You may want to boil a good amount of water to sterilize, depending how much your baby drinks. Set the water aside for it to cool. Then pour the water into jars and/or containers. If you don't have the time to boil water, you can use sterilized water.
  2. How.com.vn English: Step 2 Read the directions on the formula container.
Depending on the formula brand and your baby's nutritionist instructions, most of the time you will be using "2 ounces of water to 1 scoop of formula".
  3. How.com.vn English: Step 3 Measure each drinking bottle to the corresponding amount of water.
  4. How.com.vn English: Step 4 Place the bottles...
Place the bottles in the refrigerator for the hot water to cool down. You can designate a place in the fridge for the bottles, such as the side drawer.
  5. How.com.vn English: Step 5 Take out a bottle when it's time for a feeding.
Pour the exact amount of scoop(s) of formula into the water. When scooping, do not pack the formula down, just try to level it as much as possible.
  6. How.com.vn English: Step 6 Shake it gently to mix the powder and water together.
Make sure that there's no clumps in the mixture.
  7. How.com.vn English: Step 7 Assemble the nipple onto the nipple ring and then tighten that to top of the bottle.

      Tips

      • Don't make it too hot because it can give them an ache.
      • If your baby does not finish a feeding, try to use another bottle as the drinking one. Pour a little mg (milligrams) each time until they are finished. This method can be used if you do not wish to throw out and waste formula.
      • The temperature of the formula can either be at room temperature to cold. Some babies prefer either one.

      Warnings

      • Always discard formula that the baby did not finish. Never put back used formula in the fridge or keep it out for the next feeding. Bacteria from the baby's mouth are combined with the leftovers and also, formula left out can create additional bacteria.
