How to Label Equations in Word

This How.com.vn teaches you how to add your own label to a math equation in Microsoft Word.

Steps

  1. How.com.vn English: Step 1 Open Microsoft Word.
    It’s in the Windows menu (Windows) or in the Applications folder (macOS).
  2. How.com.vn English: Step 2 Click the Insert tab.
    It’s at the top of the screen (to the right of the Home tab).
  3. How.com.vn English: Step 3 Click the arrow next to the “Equation” button.
    It’s near the top-right corner of the screen. The arrow is pointing downward. A list of equations will appear.
  4. How.com.vn English: Step 4 Click an equation.
    You'll see it appear in the document.
  5. How.com.vn English: Step 5 Click the References tab.
    It’s at the top of the screen (to the right of the "Page Layout" tab).
  6. How.com.vn English: Step 6 Click Insert Caption.
    It’s in the “Captions” group near the top of the screen. This opens the Captions dialog box.
  7. How.com.vn English: Step 7 Click “Label” drop-down menu.
    A list of options will appear.
  8. How.com.vn English: Step 8 Click Equation.
  9. How.com.vn English: Step 9 Type your desired label into the “Caption” box.
    It’s the box at the top of the window.
  10. How.com.vn English: Step 10 Click OK.
    The equation is now labeled with the text you typed into the “Caption” box.
