How to Keep Algae out of Water Fountains

Algae is a common irritant to owners of water fountains. Depending on environmental conditions, algae can grow back every few weeks despite steady use of algae prevention products. In many cases, algae causes a fountain to look unsightly and may even interfere with the functioning of the fountain. While there's no sure way to eliminate all algae from a fountain, there are several things you can do to prevent algae build-up. Do not use a copper cleaner on fountains with natural copper parts or copper parts treating with a powder coat finish. The cleaner will strip the protective layer from the copper and cause it to weather quicker.
