Pokérus is an amazing tool to use when you're training Pokémon. It doubles the EVs. However, it is very rare to get this tool without cheating. In order to obtain and spread Pokérus in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl or Platinum, you'll need to endure a lot of battles. The results will be well worth the trouble!
Steps
- Get Pokérus. There are three ways to do this:
- Battle a Pokémon with Pokérus. The only way to get the Pokérus is from another infected Pokémon, and if you don't have any friends who have infected Pokémon, there is a very, very slight chance that a wild Pokémon will have it.
- Catch a Pokémon with Pokérus
- Get infected from a friend. It is much easier to catch the infection from somebody else's Pokémon than it is to find it yourself. If this doesn't work, move on to the next step.
- Have the Pokérus infected Pokémon first in your party, and the Pokémon you want to have Pokerus in your second slot.Advertisement
- Spread the virus as soon as one of your Pokémon gets it. Put other Pokémon in your party with the infected one, and save one infected Pokémon on your PC, in case you ever want to start another epidemic.
- Check the status screen of the Pokémon you are trying to infect. If it is infected, the purple PKRS sign should be there.
- Take your Pokémon to a Pokémon Center periodically. The nurse will tell you if your Pokémon is infected. The Pokémon Center cannot cure the Pokérus, so don't worry about losing it that way.
- Train your Pokémon, and watch their stats soar.
- Offer infected Pokémon in trades. After you tell them what the Pokérus does, they should be willing to give you some pretty awesome stuff for it.

Tips
- When the game clock reaches midnight, all Pokémon in your party infected with Pokerus will be cured. However, the now cured Pokémon will still receive Effort Values at double the rate, and Pokémon stored on PC will not be cured. Thanks
- There are many Pokémon communities online that have members that will spread Pokerus. Thanks
- It may take a while to get Pokerus, so be patient. There's roughly at 1 in 21,000 chance of a wild Pokémon having Pokerus (roughly 3-6 times more rare than encountering a Shiny Pokémon). Thanks
Warnings
- You won't have it forever. After the game's clock goes to midnight 1-4 times, the Pokémon will be cured. Putting the Pokémon in the pc box or daycare before midnight will allow the Pokérus to continue to infect your Pokémon. When it is cured, in the place of the Pokérus sign, you will have a pink smiley face in the lower right corner of the Pokémon's picture. The benefits will still be in effect. When cured, it can no longer spread to other Pokémon. Thanks
