This How.com.vn teaches you how to filter your emails by sender in Gmail by using inbox search techniques. Keep in mind that these solutions are workarounds; Gmail does not let you currently organize your entire inbox by sender. You can, however, find ways to display all messages by each sender.
Steps
Viewing All Emails from a Sender
- Open Gmail. Go to https://www.gmail.com/ in your computer's web browser. This will open your Gmail inbox if you're logged in.
- If you aren't signed into your Gmail account, enter your email address and password before proceeding.
- Find your sender's email address. Open an email from the sender, place your mouse cursor over their name in the upper-left side of the email, and then look for the email address at the bottom of the drop-down window that appears.
- Copy the email address. Click and drag your mouse across the entire email address, then press Ctrl+C (Windows) or ⌘ Command+C (Mac).
- Click the Gmail search bar. It's the "Search mail" text box at the top of the inbox.
- Enter your copied email address. Press either Ctrl+V (Windows) or ⌘ Command+V (Mac) to paste in the copied address, then press ↵ Enter to search your inbox for instances of the email address.
- Review the list of emails. You should see a list of emails from your selected sender here.Advertisement
Creating a Label Rule for a Sender
- Open Gmail. Go to https://www.gmail.com/ in your computer's web browser. This will open your Gmail inbox if you're logged in.
- If you aren't signed into your Gmail account, enter your email address and password before proceeding.
- Enter an email address. In the "From" text box at the top of the drop-down box, type in the email address of the person for whom you want to sort emails.
- As you type, you should see a list of matching email addresses appear in the results drop-down menu below the "From" field. You can click the appropriate email address to add it to the "From" field.
- You can also type a person's name into this field to prompt their email address to appear in the results drop-down menu.
- Click Create filter. It's in the bottom-right corner of the drop-down box. Doing so will open a new window.
- Check the "Apply the label" box. You'll find it in the middle of the window.
- Click Choose label…. This grey box is to the right of the "Apply the label" heading. Clicking it prompts a drop-down menu.
- Click New label…. It's near the top of the drop-down menu. Another window will open.
- Enter your contact's name. Type the name of the person for whom you want to sort emails into the "Please enter a new label name" text box at the top of the window.
- Click Create. It's at the bottom of the window. This creates a folder under the sender's name.
- Check the "Also apply filter to matching conversations" box. It's in the lower-right side of the window. Doing so will ensure that past emails from your recipient end up in the folder you just created.
- Check the "Skip the inbox (Archive it)" box if you like. This option will prevent the email from ending up in your main inbox so that you can view it only be clicking your label's name.
- You'll still be able to see the email in the All Mail section as well.
- Click Create filter. Doing so will add any past emails from your sender—as well as any future ones—to the folder (or "label") with their name on it.
- You can find the label in the left-hand column of inbox options, though you may have to select this area with your mouse cursor and/or click More at the bottom of the area to see the label.
