How to Feed a Salamander

Salamanders are fun and unique pets that are really cute and relatively easy to take care of. Feeding them is a pretty simple task once you figure out how salamanders eat. To feed a salamander, choose live bugs and invertebrates and feed them every few days.

Chicken eggs are not appropriate to feed your pet salamander. Adult marbled salamanders should eat invertebrates including earthworms, slugs, snails, centipedes and a variety of insects.

Most baby salamanders eat small microorganisms that would be found in pond water, like daphnia and/or cyclopsen. Mosquito larvae can be fed to more mature salamanders.
