Just do it. If you just try skating next to the wall very slowly at first and then gradually get back into it, that will help. If it does not help, try again or just simply look up anxiety after injury.
  • Question
Should I use a hot or cold compress?

It's good to use cold for the first day or two, or until the worst of the pain eases up, to reduce excessive swelling. After that you can use heat, if it feels good, to increase blood flow and speed up healing.
  • Question
How can I balance on the ice if I'm a beginner?

You can try using a using a skating support (or a chair if you don't have one) to get yourself comfortable in the skates. You could also get help from someone, but a loss of balance could cause you and the other person to hurt yourselves, which is why using a skating support is a better option, since it's much more stable.

      Tips

      • Put your hands in your lap when you are on the ground. If you put your hands on the ice another skater could accidentally skate over them.
      • Do the skating move you fell on. This will help you get practice and have less fear of falling on that move. Be ready to fall again though.
      • If other skaters are around, allow them to help in case you do get injured.

Further tips, for beginners:Step 4: If you are losing your balance, don't wave your arms around trying to regain it. Bend your knees, and start going into the dip position. It helps to immediately put your hands on your knees, which prevents you from waving them around and falling backwards on your head or back. It also helps prevent you from instinctively catching yourself with your hand. Often, this simple act will be enough stop you from falling.

Step 5: (A) When you fall to the side, imagine yourself landing right on the side seam of your pants, between the pockets. (Do this even if you're wearing a skirt.) The upper leg bone is the single largest bone in your body and is very strong, and the side of your leg is mostly muscle and connective tissue, which is less prone to injury.

      (B) As you fall (to the side, of course), raise your arm on the side toward the ice into an 'L' position with your elbow above the shoulder, flattening your hand as you do so. Practice this several times off-ice to get the feel of it.

The 'L' shape allows you to catch your upper weight with the entire section of arm from above the elbow down to fingertips. This distributes the impact over a large area, preventing injury (particularly to the wrist). More importantly, it absolutely prevents you from hitting your head on the ice. [Again, try this several times off-ice to get the feel of it, and to understand how it prevents you from hitting your head.]
