How to Edit a YouTube Thumbnail

Using a Computer

  1. How.com.vn English: Step 1 Open YouTube Studio on your computer.
    Launch a browser and go to https://studio.youtube.com/.
    • If you are already on YouTube, access YouTube Studio by clicking on your profile icon in the top right and selecting YouTube Studio.
  2. How.com.vn English: Step 2 Enter your email and then password to sign in.
    If you are already signed in to your Google account, you will not see this window; instead will be taken to your home screen.

    This is in the left panel near the top.
    • If you do not see the detailed options in the left panel, click on the 3 lines at the top to expand the menu.
  4. How.com.vn English: Step 4 Click on the video that you wish to edit a thumbnail for.
    Click the video preview, or click the pencil icon next to it.
  5. How.com.vn English: Step 5 Select a thumbnail.
    Under the "Thumbnail" section, select a different still shot in the video to use as your thumbnail.
    • If your account is verified and in good standing, you can choose instead to upload an image saved on your computer by clicking Upload thumbnail.
    • If you have not verified your account, hover over the question mark icon in the top right corner of the "Upload thumbnail" tile, and select Verify. Follow the instructions for verification. Refresh the YouTube Studio screen or navigate back to it and click Upload Thumbnail again.

Using the YouTube Studio App

  1. How.com.vn English: Step 1 Download YouTube Studio.
    Look for it in the Google Play Store on an Android phone or tablet, or in the App Store on an iPhone or iPad.
  2. How.com.vn English: Step 2 Launch YouTube Studio.
    Look for a red gear icon with a white triangle on your home screen or in the app drawer.
  3. How.com.vn English: Step 3 Sign into your account.
    If you are already signed into a Google account on your phone or tablet, the YouTube Studio app will automatically use that account.
    • To select a different account, tap your profile icon in the top right. Tap the down arrow next to your name and select a different account, or tap Add account and follow the instructions.
  4. How.com.vn English: Step 4 Tap the 3 horizontal lines ☰.
    This is in the top left corner.
  5. How.com.vn English: Step 5 Tap Videos.
    This is the second option in the menu.

    You may need to scroll down to find it.

    This is the option on top of the existing thumbnail preview.

    Under the "Thumbnail" section, select a different still shot in the video to use as your thumbnail.
    • If your account is verified and in good standing, you can choose instead to upload an image saved on your phone or tablet by tapping Custom thumbnail and selecting a photo.
    • If you have not verified your account, tap Custom thumbnail and then tap Learn more. Tap on the blue text that says account is verified in the first paragraph and follow the instructions for verification. Go back to YouTube Studio and tap Custom thumbnail again.
  10. How.com.vn English: Step 10 Tap Save.
