Colorful eyebrows are a trendy way to add a splash of brightness to your face. You can dye your eyebrows permanently or semi-permanently, but you really should let a professional do it. If you try to use hair dye on your own eyes, you risk getting the dye in your eye, which could actually lead to blindness.[1] However, you can use makeup to achieve the same effect without putting your eyes at risk.[2]

Using Eyeshadow and Eyeliner
Pick a pencil color. Before applying eyeshadow to your eyebrows, fill them in with an eye pencil. You can just use a jumbo white eye pencil or grease paint, then add color with eyeshadow.[3] Alternatively, you can start with a colorful eye pencil. Keep in mind that you'll want to match the color well with whatever eyeshadow color you're using, so make sure you have a match before beginning.- Grease paint is an oil-based makeup that is thick and blends well.
Color in your eyebrows using the pencil. Brush the hairs out first, so they're all aligned. Outline the eyebrow with the pencil, and then use small strokes to fill in the middle, following the direction of the hair. With the jumbo white pencil, you don't need to outline, as it's too big. Just run it over your eyebrow. You can also use an angled brush to apply it.[4]- If you used a brightly colored eye pencil, you don’t have to apply eyeshadow on top of it. Your color won't be quite as vibrant, but you'll still get an interesting effect.

Apply eyeshadow on top of the pencil. With a stiff angled brush, apply a matte eyeshadow on top of the grease paint or pencil. Keep working it in so it sticks to the grease. If you used a colored eyeliner, try to match up the colors.[5]Advertisement

Using Other Makeup to Color Eyebrows
- 1Try tinted brow gel for a subtle look. Many makeup companies now have tinted brow gel that you can use to color your eyebrows. Pick a brow gel in a bright color, and use the applicator to sweep the gel over your brows in short strokes.[6]
Apply lipstick to your eyebrows for a bright result. Lipstick isn't just for your lips. You can use it to change the color of your eyebrows.[7] Use a small brush to apply it to your eyebrows, following the direction of the hair.[8]- Opt for a matte or cream formula in a bright color. Avoid using shimmery or glossy lipstick.
- The lipstick method works especially well when you glue your brows down and layer powder on top first. Then, you can go into that layer of powder and sketch over the top with any kind of liquid lipstick.[9]
Use lip pencils if you want more control over the application. Pick a bright, matte lip pencil. Because it is soft and bright, you'll get a fairly good color. Apply from the middle outward, working it into the hair as you would an eyebrow pencil. You can leave it as is, or you can brush some matte eyeshadow in the same shade over the pencil with a stiff angled brush.[10]
Add colored mascara for a long-lasting effect. If your eyebrows need filling in, add a little eyeshadow in the color you're going for, focusing on the skin beneath your brows. Brush the colored mascara onto your eyebrows, being careful not to go outside the lines.[11]- If you want, you can start with a lighter color on the inner edge of your eyebrow and change to a darker color halfway through. Just be sure to blend the 2 colors together in the middle so you don't get a stark line between them.[12]
