How to Do the Futsal Shuffle

If you’re a fan of hip-hop music, you’re probably familiar with the Futsal Shuffle, a dance that was introduced in Lil Uzi Vert’s music video for “Futsal Shuffle 2020.”[1] At full speed, this dance can seem pretty intimidating, as it involves some fancy footwork. Don’t worry—the Futsal Shuffle can be broken down into a few simple moves that are pretty easy to memorize with practice. Once you get the hang of the basic dance, you can impress your friends with fun variations!

Method 1
Method 1 of 3:

Learning the Basic Moves

  1. How.com.vn English: Step 1 Stand up straight with your feet spread about 2 ft (0.61 m) or so apart.
Find an open area where you can learn the dance and have plenty of space to move around. Keep both of your feet flat on the ground with your arms at your sides so you have a solid foundation for the rest of the dance.[2]
    • The Futsal Shuffle revolves around fancy footwork, so you don’t need to do anything special with your hands and arms.
    • The dance always starts and ends with your feet flat and slightly separated on the ground.
  2. How.com.vn English: Step 2 Jump back onto your right foot and kick your left leg forward in the air.
Maintain your balance and jump backwards, placing most of your weight on your right foot. Keep your right knee slightly bent, and extend your left leg forward. Try keeping your left knee bent as well.[3]
    • You don’t have to kick that high while doing the Futsal Shuffle! If you want, just lift your foot a few inches or centimeters off the ground.
  3. How.com.vn English: Step 3 Hop to your left foot and kick your right leg forward in the air.
Shift your balance to the left and place most of your weight on your left foot. Bend your left leg slightly while extending your right leg forward. Keep your right leg slightly bent, leaving your foot a couple of inches or centimeters off the ground.[4]
    • Essentially, this is a mirror image of the previous dance step.
  4. How.com.vn English: Step 4 Jump forward with your left foot and kick your right leg backwards.
Maintain your balance as you keep your weight on your left foot. Hop or skid 1 ft (30 cm) forward, kicking your right leg behind you as you go. Try keeping your left leg slightly bent so it’s easier to keep your balance.[5]
    • This step can be a bit tricky, especially if balancing isn’t your forte. If you’re having any difficulties, feel free to balance on a countertop or table while you practice.[6]
  5. How.com.vn English: Step 5 Spring backwards with your left foot and extend your right leg forward.
For this part of the dance, you’re doing a reverse of the previous step. Keep your weight balanced on your right foot as you hop backwards while bringing your right leg and foot forward in a fluid motion. To help maintain your balance, try to keep both of your knees slightly bent.[7]
  6. How.com.vn English: Step 6 Hop back onto your right foot and leave your left foot in the air.
Pretend that you’re about to break into a run or jog, leaving your right foot planted on the ground and your left foot in midair. This time, keep your left leg close to your right without extending it forward.[8]
    • Your left only needs to be a few inches or centimeters off the ground.
  7. How.com.vn English: Step 7 Return to your starting position and spread your legs and feet around 2 ft (0.61 m) apart.
Jump back into your starting position, keeping both feet flat and separated on the ground. For this portion of the dance, try to keep your weight balanced on both feet.[9]

Method 2 of 3:

Practicing the Dance

  1. How.com.vn English: Step 1 Repeat the dance moves in slow succession.
Give yourself several seconds to nail each dance move. You may want to practice in front of a mirror, or put on a tutorial video so you can compare your form to an expert.[10]
    • Since this dance involves a lot of jumping and balance, start by giving yourself at least 5 seconds to complete each step of the dance.
    • There’s no need to rush! Everyone learns new dances at their own pace.
    • Look up some YouTube tutorials if you want to see someone performing the dance in real time.

Tip: Since you’re learning the dance from a music video, you may want to play “Futsal Shuffle 2020” in the background while you practice.

  2. How.com.vn English: Step 2 Try dancing while holding onto a sturdy surface.
Find an open area in your kitchen or living space with a countertop, table, or other sturdy ledge you can hold onto. Hold onto the ledge with both hands and slowly go through the different dance steps. If you’re worried about losing your balance, you may get some peace of mind by holding onto something.[11]
    • Always hold onto something that can support your body weight, and won’t shift forward if you lean on it.
  3. How.com.vn English: Step 3 Increase your dance speed slowly.
Try each dance move in shorter succession, slowly stringing the steps together as you go. Give yourself 2-3 seconds or so to nail each step before transitioning into the next portion of the dance.[12]
    • Take as much time as you need to master the dance.
    • When you do the dance at full speed, you’ll look like you’re running in place.[13]
  4. How.com.vn English: Step 4 Perform the dance multiple times without stopping.
Go through the entire dance while connecting all of the dance steps together. It’s okay if your dance is a little choppy—just keep practicing until the movements feel more fluid and natural.[14]
    • Consider recording yourself while you practice, or ask a friend to give you feedback!

Trying Different Variations

  1. How.com.vn English: Step 1 Perform a side kick-step between different segments of the dance.
Go through the basic Futsal shuffle, but pause after you kick your left foot forward for the first time. After extending your left leg forward, kick your leg at a 45-degree angle to the side. Repeat this dance move with your right leg, as well.[15]
    • You always want to kick forward before kicking to the side.
    • If you’re dancing along to the song, try to time your kick-steps with the gunshots.
  2. How.com.vn English: Step 2 Change your direction while doing a kick-step.
Extend your left leg forward as you normally would in the dance, but use your leg to physically turn and guide the rest of your body in a new direction. Similarly, kick your left leg out to the side, then pivot your leg and body in a new direction. As you go through the dance, repeat this process with your right leg, as well.[16]
    • This variation helps you to “travel” as you dance.
  3. How.com.vn English: Step 3 Transition between steps by shifting your heels, toes, and knees.
Start in the first position of the dance with your feet set apart. As a fun segue into the next part of the shuffle, shift your heels inward, then shift your toe inward. Repeat this twisting and shuffling with your feet and legs until your feet are next to one another.[17]
  4. How.com.vn English: Step 4 Slow down your dance moves to show off your skills.
Extend each dance step for several seconds, as though you’re dancing in slow motion. Slowly and fluidly transition to the next steps as you continue.[18]
    • This variation is pretty easy, but it requires a lot of balance.
