Steps
Windows
- Type network into the search bar. A list of matching results will appear.
- Click Network and Sharing Center.
- Click Change adapter settings. It's in the left column. A list of network connections will appear in the right panel.
- Right-click your current connection. A drop-down menu will appear.
- Click Properties. It's at the bottom of the menu. This opens the Properties window for the current connection.
- Remove the check mark next to “Internet Protocol Version 6.” You'll find it on the Networking tab, which should have opened by default. You may have to scroll down to find it.
- Click OK. IPv6 is now disabled for this connection.Advertisement
macOS
- Click Applications. It's in the left column of the Finder window.
- Double-click the Utilities folder. It's in the right panel of Finder.
- Double-click Terminal.app. This opens a terminal window to a command prompt.
- Type networksetup -setv6off "Wi-Fi" and press ⏎ Return. You may have to enter your admin credentials to run the command.[1]
- If you see an error, try this instead: networksetup -setv6off Wi-Fi.[2]
- Once you are returned to the command prompt, you can close the terminal window by clicking the red circle at its top-left corner.
- Click System Preferences. A list of system settings will appear.
- Click Network. If this option is locked, click the lock icon to enter your admin password, then click Unlock.[3]
- Click Wi-Fi. It's in the left column.
- Click Advanced…. It's at the bottom-right corner of the window.
- Click the TCP/IP tab. It's near the top-left corner of the window.
- Click the “Configure IPv6” drop-down menu. A list of options will appear.
- Select Off.
