How to Design a Post for Instagram

This How.com.vn will show you how to design a professional-looking post for Instagram using the free version of Crello. You can use the Crello website on your computer or you can use the mobile app that's available in the App Store and Google Play Store.

Using a Web Browser

Go to https://crello.com/create/instagram-post/ in a desktop web browser. Crello has both a paid and free version, so you'll most likely want to use the free version as a trial and then unlock more images, videos and animations, and the ability to create teams for $7.99 per month.

Click Create your first design. You'll see this yellow button under the header "It's Easy to Make Magnetic Instagram Posts."
- You'll be redirected to a page to create an account.
Everyone and anyone can use Crello for free as long as they have an account.

Choose a design template. You can change the elements in the template later, but to get started, choose how you want the post to look.
- If you need to change the size of the post, click Resize in the right corner in the blue toolbar at the top of the browser page.
- You can change the category of your post by tapping the drop-down menu on the left side of the page. For example, if you're making an Instagram post about space facts, you might want to pick the category "Nature & Wildlife."
- A free account can only use the templates that say "Free" in the upper right corner of the template thumbnail.

Edit the template as you'd like. You can click to edit "Photos," "Background," "Text," and "Objects" to edit those features in the template. If you choose a category in your template, all the tabs for editing your template will also be filtered to that category.
- In most menus, you can either click Free or browse through to find images that say "Free" in the top right corner of the thumbnail. Other images will cost extra or require Crello Pro to use.
- Most of the Photos backgrounds cost $0.99, and most of the Patterns backgrounds require a premium account to use, so you'll most likely need to use a plain color background or upload your own.
- In the Texts tab, you can either add your own text by using the Styles and Badges tabs, or you can edit existing text by clicking in an existing text box.
- In the Objects tab, you can add or remove objects in this tab. Click an object in your template and click the trashcan icon to delete it. Navigate through Shapes, Icons, Illustrations, Lines, Frames, Stickers, and Masks to find an object to add to your template. Make sure it says "Free" in the top right corner of the thumbnail before you click it.
You'll see this in the top right corner of your web browser.

Click to select a file format to download your template as. You can choose to download the template as JPG, PNG, PNG Transparent, or PDF Standard.
- JPG is the easiest and most common format here. Pick PNG or PNG Transparent if you have transparent elements in your template.
Your file browser will open so you can choose a location for your file as well as change its name.

Using the Mobile App

Get the Crello mobile app from the App Store
or Google Play Store
. This free app will give you templates so you can quickly and easily design an Instagram post.
- The app is free but the service offers a free and paid subscription. For the first 2 months of creating an account and using the mobile app, a free subscription can use premium features, like animated posts.
This app icon looks like a white "C" in a dashed square on a blue background. You'll find this app on one of your Home screens, in the app drawer, or by searching.

Log in or create a free account. If you don't have an account with Crello, tap Create an account at the bottom of the screen.
- An account is free and doesn't require a credit card.
You'll see this near the bottom of your screen.
You'll see this under the header "Social media posts."

Tap a template design to start with. When you tap an image, you'll be shown a larger version of the thumbnail.
- When you create an account and use the mobile app, you'll have the ability to use premium templates (marked with a diamond in the lower right corner) as well as free templates (marked with the word "free" in the lower right corner).
- Tap Use This Template to proceed.

Edit the template as you'd like. You can tap to edit "Photos," "Background," "Text," and "Objects" at the bottom of your screen to edit those features in the template. You can also tap the element in the template to edit it directly. For example, if you want to delete a block of text from the template, you can tap it and then tap the trashcan icon in the editing menu above the template.
- In most menus, like Photos, you can either tap Free or browse through to find images that say "Free" in the top right corner of the thumbnail. Other images will cost extra or require Crello Pro to use unless you've created a new account and are using the mobile app.
- When you tap to add a photo, you can add a filter or effect to it, and by tapping the checkmark, you can move on.
- In the Texts tab, you can either add your own text by using the Styles and Badges tabs, or you can edit existing text by tapping in an existing text box.
- In the Objects tab, you can add or remove objects in this tab. Tap an object in your template and tap the trashcan icon to delete it. Navigate through Shapes, Icons, Illustrations, Lines, Frames, Stickers, and Masks to find an object to add to your template.
You'll see this in the top right corner of your screen.

Tap to share your project or download it. You can share the image directly to compatible apps (those on your phone that you can share to appear as icons on the pop-up menu when you tap to share.), or you can save the file to your phone so you can use it later.
- If you choose to download the file, your phone will automatically save it.
