How to Create a Public Folder on Dropbox

This How.com.vn teaches you how to create a shared Dropbox folder. Though Dropbox removed the ability to create general public folders in March 2017, you can still share folders with as many people as you wish.

Method 1

Using a Mobile Device

  1. How.com.vn English: Step 1 Open Dropbox.
    It's the blue box icon typically found on the home screen or in the app drawer (Android).
    • If you're not already signed in, do so before continuing.
  2. How.com.vn English: Step 2 Tap +.
    It's in the blue circle at the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  3. How.com.vn English: Step 3 Tap Create new folder.
  4. How.com.vn English: Step 4 Type a name for the folder.
  5. How.com.vn English: Step 5 Tap Create.
    This brings you to the root of the new folder.
  6. How.com.vn English: Step 6 Tap icon or iconThis brings you to the Share screen.

    The addresses should be typed on the “Email, name, or group” line.

    If you want these people to be able to add, remove, and edit documents in the folder, select Can edit. If you only want them to be able to view and download content but not make changes, select Can view.
  9. How.com.vn English: Step 9 Enter an optional message.
    You can type some information about the folder into the “Message” box, if you wish.
  10. How.com.vn English: Step 10 Tap the paper airplane icon.
    This sends the folder's link to the selected recipients. These people will be able to access the folder by clicking or tapping the link in the message.
    • To share the folder with more people in the future, open Dropbox, tap the name of the folder, then tap the sharing icon again.

Using a Computer

  1. How.com.vn English: Step 1 Go to https://www.dropbox.com...
    Go to https://www.dropbox.com in a web browser. You can use any web browser that's on your computer, such as Safari or Chrome, to access your Dropbox.
    • If you haven't yet signed in, you should do so now.
  2. How.com.vn English: Step 2 Click New shared folder.
    It's on the right side of the screen.
  3. How.com.vn English: Step 3 Select I'd like to create and share a new folder.
  4. How.com.vn English: Step 4 Click Next.
  5. How.com.vn English: Step 5 Type a name for your new folder into the top box.
  6. How.com.vn English: Step 6 Enter the recipients into the “To:”
    field. These are the people who you want to be able to access the folder. You can always come back later and share it with more people.
  7. How.com.vn English: Step 7 Select a permission level from the drop-down menu.
    If you want these people to be able to add, remove, and edit documents in the folder, select Can edit. If you only want them to be able to view and download content but not make changes, select Can view.
  8. How.com.vn English: Step 8 Click Share.
    The folder is now created and shared with the selected recipients. They'll receive an email message with a link to the folder.
    • To add additional people to the folder, click Files on the left side of the screen, click the new folder's name, then click Share folder.
