If your parents are planning to home school you and you know that it wont work for you, then this article can offer a few steps and advice on how to increase your chances of convincing your parents not to home school you.

Steps

  1. How.com.vn English: Step 1 WH.performance.clearMarks('image1_rendered'); WH.performance.mark('image1_rendered');...
Compare home schooling to school. Do a bit of research, and write up some benefits and downfalls of being home schooled, then do the same with going to a school. You should think of some related to you too, and write them down.
    • For example if you knew that your social life would suffer if you were to be home schooled, then you could add that to the downfalls of being homeschooled. You could then also add to the benefits of going to school that you could maintain good friendships.
  2. How.com.vn English: Step 2 Ask your parents why they want to homeschool you.
Asking your parents why they are planning to homeschool you can give you some insight into their reasoning. From there you can better plan on how to convince them to let you go to school.

  3. How.com.vn English: Step 3 If you are currently going to a school, get your grades up.
If you are currently attending school, and your parents are planning to pull you out and homeschool you soon, then prove that you can do well at a school by getting your grades up the best you can.
    • The reason your parents might want to homeschool you is they feel they can help you to learn better themselves when its just you and them.
  4. How.com.vn English: Step 4 Ask your parents for a time to talk about their wishes to homeschool you.
Talking to your parents on the spot could only cause an argument, so schedule a time everyone is free.
  5. How.com.vn English: Step 5 Acknowledge their wishes.
You should start of by telling your parents you acknowledge and respect their wishes to homeschool you, and you understand that they want to give you a better education. You can then go on to explain how even though you get why they would want to give you an education at home, you feel you would do better at school. Make sure to bring up the benefits you wrote down about school and the downfalls you also noted about the possibility of homeschooling.
    • Try express how you feel about it, for example... "If I had to be homeschooled, I would really miss getting to be social with my classmates, and I think that would affect me. Im more used to working together will other kids to do work, doing things alone at home would make it hard"
    • Make a promise you know you can keep to convince your parents further. If they are concerned about your grades, then promise to get them up the best you can. If they dont like the people you are talking to at school, promise to focus more on friends they approve of.
  6. How.com.vn English: Step 6 Try a compromise.
If your parents are still pretty adamant on homeschooling you, suggest a compromise. For example, you could still go to school but have lessons with them at home every Saturday.
  7. How.com.vn English: Step 7 Thank your parents if they give up their wish to homeschool you.
It was probably a big decision that your parents made to homeschool you, so it should mean a lot if they give it up for you. Express your appreciation, and assure them that you will fulfil the promises you made. This will make your parents feel good about letting you stay at school.
  8. How.com.vn English: Step 8 Find ways to adjust your life if your parents answer is still no.
If your parents still refuse to let you go/stay at school, then find ways you can adjust your life to keep the things at school you didnt want to lose the best you can.
    • If you were worried about losing friends, you could always ask them to come over when they've finished school or for a sleepover on the weekend. If you have a phone or laptop, be sure to keep in contact. The friends you do lose are the ones who weren't very invested in the friendship most likely, the ones you keep show they are loyal and a good friend to have.
