Steps
Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to a router, modem, wall jack, or another device. Use that device’s instructions to find the location of its Ethernet port.- It doesn't matter which end of the cable you insert into which device. Ethernet cables have the same connector on both ends.
Find the Ethernet port on your laptop. The port is typically found on the side or back of the laptop. It looks like a thicker version of a telephone jack, and usually has a raised image or sticker of 3 squares connected by a series of lines.- If your laptop is a thinner or lighter model, the Ethernet port may be obscured by a small door or plastic flap that can be gently pulled down or aside.

Insert the connector of the Ethernet cable into the port. The ″hook″ side of the connector may face up or down depending on your laptop. It should be obvious, as there will be a small divot on the port to accommodate the extra plastic.- When inserted properly, you should hear a gentle click of the connector locking into place.
