How to Clean a Leather Jacket

A quality leather jacket never goes out of style. To keep your jacket in good condition, however, you’ll have to care for the material. Unlike other types of clothing, you won’t be able to simply pop your leather jacket in the washing machine, since this can make it shrink, crack, and warp. If your jacket is dirty or dull, there are some fast and easy ways to clean and treat it that will leave it looking new for a long time to come.

To test whether it's safe to spot-clean a certain type of leather with water, find an inconspicuous spot on the jacket to rub in a few drops. If the water beads on the leather, it should be able to withstand being wiped down with a wet towel. If the water absorbs into the leather, have it dry-cleaned to be on the safe side.
