How to Change a TikTok Account to Private

By default, all new accounts on TikTok are public. If you want to hide your videos, as well as control who can follow you, then you can privatize your account by following these steps.

Making an Account Private

The app will have a picture of a music note in the center.
This icon is in the bottom right corner to the right of the notifications page. You may need to log into your account to view your profile page.
This opens your settings.
This opens a list of settings particular to your account's privacy.

Toggle "Private account"
. This will hide your videos from other users, and only followers will be able to view them.
- Note that it takes time for an account to be designated as private in the servers, but it should be a relatively short period of time.
- Users will have to request a follow to view your videos.
- Existing followers will still be able to view your videos.

Approving Follow Requests

This page has a dialog box icon on the bottom to the right of the +.

Tap on Follow requests. This button is only visible when people requested to follow you.
- If you do not see this button, then you will have to view your inbox or followers tab. Tap on the dropdown at the top, then choose Inbox or Followers.

Tap on the ✔ to approve follow requests. This will add them to your followers and send them a notification.
- If you want to deny a follow request, choose ❌. This will remove them from your followers list. They will not be notified but they will have to request a follow request by tapping on Requested and tapping on Follow again.

On newer versions of TikTok, you will see a lock by your TikTok ID on your own profile page. You will also see a follower requests page.
