Amazon Smile is an Amazon sister site that donates 0.5% of your Amazon purchase to charity. You can customize your charity to ensure the donation is disbursed to a local or favorite organization.
Steps
- Go to Smile.Amazon.com. Sign into your account just as you would sign into Amazon.com.
- Find “My Account” in the top right corner of the page and click on it. Scroll to the Settings portion of the screen. Under account settings, select “Change Your Charity.”Advertisement
- Choose one of the spotlight charities or use the search bar to find a local charity. To be eligible, this charity must be a 501(c)3 (tax-deductible) charity that has signed up with Amazon Smile. If you don’t know the name of a local charity, you can search by location.
- Click the “Select” button to the right of the charity you would like to support. You should see a pop up that says, “Thank You. Now when you shop at smile.amazon.com, your purchases will support xyz charity.”
- Look for the small writing at the center top of the page that says, “Supporting xyz charity.” You can also change your charity by clicking the drop down box next to this writing and choosing the “Change Your Charity” link.
- Bookmark Smile.Amazon.com on your browser. Use this bookmark link whenever you want to use Amazon.
- Use Smile.Amazon.com just as you would Amazon.com. When you add items to your cart and purchase them with a credit or debit card, a portion of the price of most goods will be donated to the charity of your choice.
- Avoid going straight to the Amazon.com site. If the smile.amazon.com site is not used, your purchases will not be eligible for charitable donations.
