Why doesn't the USA participate in Boxing Day? After all, aren't we looked at as the generous country to those less fortunate?

Although Boxing Day's roots extend far back in British history, it didn't become an official holiday in the UK until 1871, almost a hundred years after the American Revolution. By that time, the USA had already begun celebrating Thanksgiving, which is similar in many ways.
