How to Block WhatsApp Calls on Android

This How.com.vn teaches you how to block calls from a specific WhatsApp user, as well as how to disable notifications for new calls on your Android. There’s no way to block all WhatsApp calls, but blocking users and/or notifications can serve the same purpose.

Method 1
Method 1 of 4:

Blocking a Contact

  1. How.com.vn English: Step 1 Open WhatsApp on your Android.
    It’s the green icon with a white chat bubble and phone receiver inside. You’ll usually find it on the home screen.
    • Blocking a contact prevents them from calling or sending you messages in WhatsApp.
    • It’s not possible to block the person’s calls but still receive their messages.
  2. How.com.vn English: Step 2 Tap the CHATS tab.
    It’s at the top of the screen.
  3. How.com.vn English: Step 3 Tap the person you want to block.
    This opens the messaging conversation.
    • If you don’t see a conversation with this person, tap the New Chat icon (bottom-right corner of the screen), then select the contact from the list.
  4. How.com.vn English: Step 4 Tap the person’s name.
    It’s at the top of the chat. This opens the person’s profile.
  5. How.com.vn English: Step 5 Scroll down and tap Block.
    It’s near the bottom of the menu. A confirmation message will appear.

    All calls and messages from this user are now blocked.

Disabling WhatsApp Notifications for a Specific Person

  1. How.com.vn English: Step 1 Open WhatsApp on your Android.
    It’s the green icon with a white chat bubble and phone receiver inside. You’ll usually find it on the home screen.
  2. How.com.vn English: Step 2 Tap the CHATS tab.
    It’s at the top of the screen.
  3. How.com.vn English: Step 3 Tap the person whose notifications you want to block.
    If you don’t see a chat with this person, tap the New Chat icon at the bottom-right corner of the screen, then select their name from the list.
  4. How.com.vn English: Step 4 Tap the person’s name.
    It’s at the top of the chat. This opens their profile.
  5. How.com.vn English: Step 5 Slide the “Mute notifications” switch to On icon.
    A pop-up will appear.

    This is how long the notifications will be blocked.
    • If you still want to see notifications of new calls and messages from this person on the screen but don’t want to hear sound alerts, check the box next to “Show notifications.”

Disabling All WhatsApp Call Notifications

  1. How.com.vn English: Step 1 Open WhatsApp on your Android.
    It’s the green icon with a white chat bubble and phone receiver inside. You’ll usually find it on the home screen.

    It’s at the top-right corner of WhatsApp. A menu will appear.
  3. How.com.vn English: Step 3 Tap Settings.
  4. How.com.vn English: Step 4 Tap Notifications.
    It’s the option with a bell icon.
  5. How.com.vn English: Step 5 Scroll down and tap Ringtone.
    It’s under the “Call notifications” header.
  6. How.com.vn English: Step 6 Select None and tap OK.
    New WhatsApp calls will no longer have an audible ringtone.
  7. How.com.vn English: Step 7 Tap the back button.
    This brings you back to the Notification settings.

    It’s also under the “Call notifications” header.

    This disables vibration alerts for new WhatsApp calls. Calls will still come in though, just not noisily.

Disabling All WhatsApp Notifications

  1. How.com.vn English: Step 1 Open your Android’s Settings icon.
    You’ll usually find it in the app drawer. You may also find its icon by pulling down the notification bar from the top of the screen.
  2. How.com.vn English: Step 2 Tap Notifications.
    It’s usually under a header called “Device.”
  3. How.com.vn English: Step 3 Scroll down and tap WhatsApp.
    It’s the icon with a green and white chat bubble and phone receiver inside.
  4. How.com.vn English: Step 4 Slide the “Block All” switch to the On icon position.
    WhatsApp will no longer announce new calls or messages.
