The petticoat is a staple undergarment for Lolita, and a Lolita is not properly dressed without one. Shirts/Dresses shouldn't show any cleavage, or shoulders. If you're wearing a jumper-skirt (Like a Lolita dress, but sleeveless), always wear a blouse underneath. Lolita fashion aims to be cute and modest and is never supposed to be a sexy style! Your skirt should go down to the knee usually, but this does vary with taller Lolitas and variation is acceptable depending on height and dress fit.[6]- A Lolita dress for £200 will probably be worth it. Brands like Angelic Pretty and Baby The Stars Shine Bright will never let you down. Love them and look after anything you purchase from there. If you want cheaper brands with an effect that almost matches, look at Anna House and Metamorphose. However, do not use Milanoo, as it is a known scam. When it comes to blouses, bloomers and shoes, use Bodyline. But be careful when shopping with them for other things, as they sell things that are in other Japanese fashion styles, as well as costume items. Alternatively, look for second hand brand items in places such as 'lace market' or Facebook groups. This could cut the price of a brand dress in half.
Footwear. The traditional footwear of choice for Lolitas is the Mary Jane, but similar options are available. A proper Lolita shoe should feature a closed, rounded toe and not have a thin high heel (although platform shoes and boots and shoes with a slight heel are acceptable) .[7]- Boots fitting into this criteria are quite common with brands, though care must be taken not to go too edgy in one's boot choice. Another favorite style, owing to the popularity of Vivienne Westwood in Japan, are rocking horse shoes.
- Socks are very important at the moment. In Lolita it is fashionable to have pretty, high socks. Prints on socks always look cute! Find prints with gingham, cakes/sweets, animals, bows, hearts, musical notes, etc. Sometimes brands will sell socks to match their dresses, if you would prefer to go for a full set look.
Decide on your hair. Any style really is fine, as long as it fits with your coord (outfit), but pigtails or curls are common. If you think you would like to wear a wig for lolita, make sure it does not look fake; get a high-quality one from eBay, or a speciality wig shop. If you have a fringe, which is incredibly common for lolita, make sure that it does not go over your eyes.[8]- For headbands, try bows, bonnets, headdresses and flowers. Try and DIY things or find them second hand, as brand accesories can be up to £100.
Have Lolita-style makeup. Blush and neutral eyeshadow is popular, and a good suncream is a must. Eyelash extensions, if worn, must not be too long or else they will look bad.[9]
