How to Bathe a Guinea Pig

If you're caring for a guinea pig, you may only need to wash it once a month because guinea pigs are like cats - they keep themselves clean. Guinea pigs are great at keeping themselves clean, but you might have to bathe yours if it has an infection or abscess. Only bathe your guinea pig if you absolutely need to so you don’t cause it any unneeded stress. Place fleece in your lap and use this to keep your lap from getting soiled while holding it. After returning your pet to the enclosure, shake the feces into the toilet or garbage, and wash your hands afterward. Wash fleece with unscented laundry detergent. Guinea pigs can carry ringworm and also can get mange, as well as lose fur if they don't get enough vitamin C. If your guinea pig is losing fur you should take them to a veterinarian who sees guinea pigs.
