He will be more likely to say no to your question if you say it in front of his friends.

Don't get someone else to ask for you. Chances are, the boy will say no, because it is immature, and shows that you lack confidence (guys really like confident girls, but don't be overconfident or you will come across as arrogant!). The person who asked might start gossip about you too! That is something you don't want.
