How to Apply for a University in the UK

The United Kingdom (UK) is home to more than 150 universities, including some of the oldest and most prestigious schools in the world. However, in order to attend one of these universities, you need to go through an application process that can seem daunting to some people, especially if you don’t live in the UK. Luckily, by making sure you meet the right admissions requirements and submitting the proper qualifications, you can take a lot of the stress out of applying for a university in the UK.

Make a list of what’s most important to you in a university. There are over 150 universities in the United Kingdom that offer a variety of experiences and courses. Some law degrees (LLBs) will require you to take the LNAT (Law National Aptitude Test), which contains multiple choice questions and an essay section - this exam generally cannot be substituted by the LSAT, so check with your university. Only some universities will require applicants to take the LNAT, namely: Bristol, Durham, Glasgow, KCL, Nottingham, Oxford, UCL, and LSE (SOAS requires the LNAT for those without a traditional academic background).

No, UCAS is the umbrella body through which your application will be submitted. The vast majority of UK universities will not accept direct applications for undergraduate study. As a result, your personal statement should be written a way that will appeal to all of the universities/courses that you are applying to as each institution will receive the same statement.
