How to Add Effects on iMovie

IMovie allows users to add video effects to video clips within their iMovie projects. By opening the "Effects" menu, you can utilize numerous options from the effects list and customize how long the effects last on the clip. You can't really do that in iMovie. There is a transition called 'Ripple', but I suggest using something like Premiere Pro or After Effects.

      Tips

      • If you want to remove an effect from a video clip, you must do so before the iMovie project is saved and before the iMovie trash has been emptied. To remove an effect, click on the video clip that has the effect you wish to remove, then go to "Advanced" and click on "Restore Clip." This will then restore your clip back to its original version.
      • To apply more than one effect to a video clip within your iMovie project, repeat the above steps per each effect you wish to add.
      • Be sure to save your iMovie project after editing your video effects so your work is not lost.

      Warnings

      • If there is a transition on the video clip you are trying to add an effect to, you must first remove the transition in order for the effect to take place. Save time and unnecessary effort by editing your transitions after applying your effects.
